Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking

1 Leadership Quality I possess is responsiveness. CHY has a group chat and I’m always one of the first people replying to it. I always make sure what needs to be done gets done and communicate effectivily with members in my leadership group.

1 Leadership Skill I possess is delegation. I am really good at this, probably because I’m the oldest sibling of 3. In projects I always make sure everyone has a fair role and that it match’s with their strengths. I also make sure that we try and keep to the point, to get what we need done.

1 Leadership Quality I would like to develop by the end of the course is creativity. I can have a hard time putting together something like a post so its visually appealing. For example I made a Instagram post because we decided that everyone should make one and my group said mine was bad so someone re-designed it…

1 Leadership Skill I would like to develop by the end of the course is decision making. I am really indecisive and would like to improve upon this.

As demonstrated through volunteering, group activities and my cultural connections project I can work with others to achieve a goal. I am always communicating and collaborating with other in leadership students which is a good way to achieve a goal. In Cent Helping Youth the only way to achieve our goal is by working together. Last year we surpassed our goal and raised about $1,200 for Covenant House and we couldn’t have done it without working together to make sure fundraises go smoothly.

Comparative Cultures Mid-Term Assessment

Collaboration

Collaboration Core Competency – I am reflecting on collaboration through the Gilgamesh group project. I always make sure all the members of my group are heard and contributing. I usually delegate roles to group members, making sure everyone has fair roles. Something I need to work on is being more lenient with members. Someone might be responsible for doing a part and do it really badly or mess up. That leaves me in a position where I worry my grades to suffer. I need to just be more relaxed about it as there’s not really anything I can do.

Cause and Consequence Curricular Competencies – Through the project I believe I grew in my understanding of relationships between actions (causes) and outcomes (consequences). I clearly stated the consequences at the end of my skit. I was also able to show the causes, both underlying and intermediate, at the beginning. I would like to grow in connecting this curricular competency to things like culture and symbols. Some ways I can do this is by being more reflective, researching and trying to be more insightful.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking

Our criminal justice system should be both punitive and rehabilitative depending on the severity of the crime. Murder, treason and rape are examples of things that should be highly punished. Lesser crimes of assault, stealing and intoxication should have a higher focus of rehabilitative.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements – I meet this core competency as I’m able to analyze a cases evidence to come to a conclusion of who I believe is guilty as demonstrated through assignments.

English First Peoples 11 Final Reflection

My Artifact:

Curricular Competencies Reflection

Comprehend and Connect: During this assignment I learnt how in poems there is lots of symbolism. I grew in my reading skills when analysing this poem. I had to consider different perspectives and meanings in this text to create a well rounded analysis. I will take what I learned and use it towards working on reconciliation by connecting real life issues to those in stories. This can help younger generations by being able to relate ongoing issues with to things they can understand.

 Core Competencies Reflection

Critical/Reflective Thinking: I grew in this core competency when completing this assignment. I can now better analyse evidence to make judgements. I had to read over the poem many times and try to get a better understanding of the symbols and their different meanings.

Inductive/Deductive reasoning in popular games

Game: Mastermind

I played the game mastermind. How you play is by trying to guess the sequence and colours of a 4 length hidden answer. There are 8 colours to choose from to create 4 circle code. When you guess the code if you get the right colour it shows you a small white circle and if you guess the right colour and spot it shows you a small red dot. From there you must use inductive and deductive reasoning to win. Inductive reasoning is good to use at the beginning, using examples as guesses. After gathering some information you can use deductive reasoning to put together the final answer. You can look back and see in what formations you had the right colour and spots and see past that to what colours have been there before and not gotten the little red dot, allowing you to see what needs to be there.

French 11 Movie Posters

Creative Thinking:

For my French movie poster I chose the film Heathers. This movie is one of my favourite movies and I watch it every so often with my sister. When it came to creating and designing the poster I wanted to do a black and white theme, as it’s an older film and I felt it enhanced the morally grey characters of the story. I also added croquet illustrations, as the film starts off with them playing and it is a common association of the Heathers. I chose the font because I liked the aesthetic it added and in the movie they often wrote in cursive. Overall I like how the poster turned out.

 Curricular Competencies Reflection

Create and Communicate: During this assignment I learnt about the role of the Trickster in Indigenous story telling and I was able to demonstrates my learning through my in writing, representing skills. I can use my newly gained trickster knowledge towards reconciliation.

Core Competencies Reflection

Critical and Reflective Thinking – I think I have grown in this core competency throughout the process of learning about the Trickster. I was able to reflect what I had learnt in class to create a paragraph and concept map. I was also able to showcase my learning in a reflective demonstration. Before I completed this assignment I think I could have been more creative and reflective in my work. This has helped me further my learning.

Math 11 Foundations Stats Unit Self Assessment

Through this math course I have learnt about stats, hence the title. The only previous experience I have with these applications is a few lessons about mean, medium and mode in middle school, everything else was new. Things like z=m-x/o and normal distribution were alien to me. I seemed to be picking up on the math well, much more well than I thought I would, or that was until word questions to do with z-score were introduced. I found them to be extremely difficult but now, after much practice, I can confidently say I have a solid understanding of all sections within this unit. Next unit I plan to do more questions in my math book, even if they aren’t assigned and ask more questions.
