Core Competency Self-Assessment

Communication CC Collaborating

I can work with others to achieve my goal because I can ask questions in case I’m confused about something and I can complete my goal with the help of others.

I chose this photo of a lab I completed because I worked in a group with two of my friends and they helped answer my questions to finish the lab. We all worked together to fill out the sheet and to mix the chemicals.

Me Card

This is my me card and it shows you everything that makes me, me.

Passions

For my “passions” section, I had to shorten my long list of things I love doing to make it all fit. I started with watching tv, reading, writing, and music because whenever I do one of those activities, they help me “escape from my reality” because they distract me from my own reality and put my mindset into a fictional one. I love doing these whenever I’m stressed or even bored. I chose shopping because I love buying new things. Whether I’m simply walking around a mall or actually buying things, it brings me joy. I love buying new clothes because I like making it my own personal project to create new outfits with them. Then, I chose skincare because I like trying out new products on my skin and just seeing the difference. I also just love having clear skin.

Values

I value tons of things but my main ones are money because I literally couldn’t survive without money. I’m not talking about my shopping addiction, I mean, if you think of it, what do you really need to survive? Food, water, shelter. Those are the main things anyways. And to get these things, you need money. I love spending my money but I also need it to live so I value it deeply. Next I value my family and friends because they make me happy, which is a key factor in having a healthy mindset and mental health. I also value myself, which should be obvious. And lastly, the planet. We wouldn’t be here, alive, if it wasn’t for the planet so I, among other things, value it deeply.

Future Plans

I haven’t got my entire future planned yet, but these are definitely some things I am looking forward for in my future.

I hope to graduate high school with good grades and a happy mindset because that would mean a lot to me. After that I would like to go to a nice university where I can learn about my passions and eventually get a job. I want to get a job to make tons of money so that I could live well. I’m also looking forward to get a house and car because I can drive wherever and whenever I want, and I get to live on my own, living by my own rules. Lastly, I really, really, want to travel the world. I love visiting new places and seeing fascinating sights. Travelling makes me really happy so I’m really looking forward to that.

Skills

I’m good at many things, along with not good at many things, but here are the things I love doing and am well at.

I love to skateboard and I would say I’m pretty good at it. It’s an easy way to get from one place to another without walking, and it’s also really fun to learn new tricks. I would say I’m quite good at sleeping since I sleep until 4pm on the weekends. I love English and usually gets good grades in my English classes since I love reading new books and writing essays on them in my opinions. I would say I’m pretty good at makeup since a lot of people compliment me on it and I enjoy doing it in different ways. Lastly I love baking and am usually good at it unless it’s something REALLY complicated. I love making cookies and cakes and it’s really fun to me.

Those are the things that make me, me and I enjoy doing all of those things.

Math Self Assessment

When I am sad, angry or frustrated, listening to music helps me be more productive or calm.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in when I ask for help.

When I need to boost my mood or refocus I like to listen to music or drink water.

By helping people in areas I understand in the classroom, I make a positive difference to my peers.

CPR Reflection

My Learning of CPR

What Is CPR, and When Should I Use It? – Omnibus. https://omnibushomehealthcare.net/what-is-cpr-and-when-should-i-use-it/. Accessed 13 Dec. 2022.CloseDeleteEdit

CPR Reflection

What was something you learned that you didn’t know or consider before?

I learned that when performing CPR, you should place your hands below the patients ribs and not anywhere else to avoid hurting the patient even further.

What is a key takeaway from the Theory or Practical CPR unit?

Heart attack and stroke symptoms are actually quite different from each other, and it is easy to tell whether someone is having a heart attack or a stroke based on this.

How does this unit connect to the nutrition unit learned previously?

Most causes of heart attacks or strokes are bad health or poor diet which is caused by eating unhealthily and not exercising.

Core Competency Reflection

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I like to listen to music or talk to my friends.

In this unit, I am proud that I accomplished getting a really good grade on my CPR test by studying and focusing in class.

One of the ways I can see using this learning to help others is in case I come across someone who needs CPR because of a heart attack or stroke, I can help them until help arrives.

Core Competency Goals

When it seems like the good ideas just won’t come to me, I like to listen to music to help calm myself or create space in my mind to get the ideas flowing again.

When I am sad, angry or frustrated, watching a comfort movie/show, listening to music, or simply talking to my friends, helps me be more productive or calm.

How do you show that you are listening thoughtfully? In what ways does your listening contribute to your understanding? To show that I am listening to the speaker, I could put all of my attention to them instead of talking to people around me. I could also take occasional notes if neccessary. The way listening contributes to my understanding is when I’m asked a question, I would know the answer if I had been listening, which would make me understanding topics a lot easier.

math core competency self-assesment

When I am sad, angry, or frustrated, listening to music or talking to my friends helps me be more productive or calm.

If there is a disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to take a vote or try all of the ideas until we get an answer everyones happy with.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I like to listen to music.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I would first introduce myself and then try and work with them.

meal planning assignment

Problem

The problem that needs to be solved is that a family including Parent A, Parent B, Teen #1, and Teen #2 needs to have a meal plan. They need to figure out who’s going to be cooking dinner from Monday through Friday, what their dinner is going to be, and when it’s going to be cooked and served. The main problem in this is that each of the family members have different activities they need to get done at different times and days of the week. They’ll need to make sure the person cooking on that specific day is completly free and that they serve it when the entire family comes back. Now to be fair, each person of the family needs to cook at least once so they all have a specific task they need to be completed, and Teen #2, the youngest, should have the easier meals to cook.

Solution

My group has found a solution for this problem by making a meal plan for them based off of all the information given.

So first we have each other jobs to do that they would stick with until the meal plan is complete.

Zoe: Portion of Recipe

Olivia: Dinner time

Alexis: Cook

Ethan: recipe

We then did our parts and put it together to create a meal plan. We later looked at it together as a group and edited it.

Justification

Why I think our meal plan will work perfectly is because we decided that teen #2 should cook black bean tacos on Monday because it’s easier and takes less time to cook then any of the other complicated meals, chose teen #1 to cook spinach and beef lasagna with parent A on Tuesday because it’s a little more complicated for teen #1 and parent A has enough time to help teen #2 that day.

We also decided parent A should make vegetable pad Thai on Wednesday because it’s more complicated and takes more time to make but also because there would be enough for leftovers on Thursday, so every family member cooks just once.

On Thursday we decided that the family would have the leftover lasagna from Tuesday, and that Teen #2 would reheat it because they had the least amount of cooking to do and we chose parent B to be the one to cook the biggest meal for Friday which is Teriyaki chicken.

Our plan was to basically have a smaller meal at the beginning of the week leading to bigger meals towards the end of the week. We also decided to give teen #1 and #2 smaller meals to cook as the parents were assigned to the bigger meals.

I think this meal plan is great because we went with logical things like teen #2, the youngest, cooking smaller meals, and there being bigger meals at the end of the week because that’s when you would need more energy after a long week. We also decided that 6:30 should be the time dinner is served every day because that’s when everyones free and it’s less complicated.

Collaboration Reflection

The way me and my group communicated and shared information with each other was by having a conversation about how we would put the meal plan together. Another thing we did was have a shared document which helped us put all of our ideas on one document and then edit it as a group together.

A situation where technology was helpful to us was when we had a shared document and were putting all our ideas together. Having technology also helped us find recipes we wanted to use for our meal plan, and organize it so much better and easier then writing it on paper. Something that technology did that made MY work a little harder was when i was typing this out and this website didn’t let me put a table for our meal plan.

How the tasks were distributed between us in our group was we would all look at the assignments and we would tell each other what we thought would be easy for us.

The specific task i completed was looking at the family’s schedule and choosing who was going to cook when. There isn’t any exact “evidence” that i did this task but we each assigned ourselves a task and completed it in creating this meal plan.

Self Assesment: Collaboration and Critical Thinking

Collaboration:

Some things i think about before dividing tasks among group members include, making sure the group member wants to do that specific task, knowing that they will be good at their task, and making sure no one else wants that specific task.

I know the group is working well together when i see communication and work on our shared document.

Critical Thinking:

I remain open minded as i explore viable options or alternative aproaches, like when we were choosing an actual meal for Thursday then realized having left overs would be better and it would save the family more time.

I use evidence to make judgements of decisions as demenstarted when we had Teen #2 cook black bean tacos for Monday because their the youngest and the meal was small and took the least amount of time.

Advertisement and Persuasion

My Advertisement

Persuasion and Advertisement Techniques

Our advertisement is using emotional and ethical techniques because it’s playing off of people’s feelings. in this case it’s using the rewarding feeling of helping others in need, which is making you feel better about yourself. just by thinking that there are children in need of this donation and you can help them by buying just one pair of shoes really makes most people set aside their thoughts and buy this product. Our ad is also using people appeal or, ecology/public service appeal. our ad is using this technique because of how 30% of the money earned off of this product is being donated to charity.

Core competency Reflection

I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself: I can do this whenever I have completed something important and have done it well. If I complete something challenging i can be proud of myself and know that i have done it well. in this case i’m proud of myself for completing the advertisement and putting in enough effort.

I find it easy to be part of a group: i can easily be apart of a group as long as I know that everyone does an equal amount of work and puts enough effort into their part. i think it’s nice to work with a group of people you know well and know can do their part of the assignment right. i found it really easy to be apart of my group when we did the advertisement because we all worked hard and put in effort.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others: I can have a lot of ideas, but i also need to make sure their good ideas. i can also add to others ideas when i think that somethings missing. i did this a lot when me and my group were trying to make up ideas for what we’re advertising and how we’re going to present it.

I can reflect on my thinking. i can get an idea and think if it would work or not. like what could go wrong with idea that got? or how can i make this idea even better? i did this a lot too with my group when thinking of things to advertise. at one point we thought about doing a coke ad, but then i thought of that and realized it wouldn’t have effected peoples lives as much as advertising shoes.
