Knife Skills

For this lab my partner and I made a breakfast hash. This lab went really well because we were able to move at a fast pace but still do it correctly. Before we started the lab I was a little nervous to use a knife for chopping the vegetables because my knife skills were not impressive. As the demo was being done I learned how to properly hold a knife so I don’t cut myself. As my partner was getting the rest of ingredients, I cut the potatoes and to my surprise I was able to cut them all evenly in one shot. Some challenges I had was cutting my onions, I thought I was going to cry while chopping them evenly. Guess what I didn’t cry or cut myself. Some different knife cuts that I used were dice the garlic and chop the vegetables. We use a variety of knife cuts for presentation and for even cooking. Not having same size cuts the ingredients will cook unevenly and the presentation will be less appealing. #foodsblock4

My most memorable food experience was when I was in New York and my family and I tried the classic New York cheesecake. We were on the last day of our trip when we noticed that we didn’t try the New York cheesecake yet. We tried looking for a place that sells them but we couldn’t find one after looking for awhile we found a Manhattan bakery. We ordered one slice of it and it was surprisingly really good. The flavor was to die for and it is something that I will for sure want to have again. #foodsblock4
