Mon Autobiographie

L’hiver

À Coquitlam, nous avons quatre saisons.  Il fait du soleil et chaud pendant l’ete, frais et pluvieux en automne, froid en hiver, et venteux au printemps.  Ma saison préférée est l’hiver.  Pendant l’hiver, j’aime faire du planche à niege.  J’aime aussi passer du temps à la maison. Une autre activité que j’aime est le patin à glace, mais je tombe tout le temps.  J’aime l’hiver plus que l’été parce que j’aime le froid plus que la chaleur.

Curricular Competency Reflection

Some strategies I used to complete this paragraph were to have my vocab sheet out so I could reference it, and to use word reference to look up words I don’t know. I also looked back on past grammar points so I could have as diverse a paragraph as possible. I used vocabulary related to winter, as well as temperatures and weather. I also used the grammar point plus…que so I could say more than. If I had been writing this in English rather than French, I wouldn’t have had to use such simple words and I would have been able to have a more complex sentence structure. I imagine it would be very difficult to not be able to express what I’m trying to say and not be able to use my first language to communicate with others.

Core Competency Reflection

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by asking my friends and teacher when I don’t understand a topic or word and explaining to others different ideas or topics that I understand. When I am sad, angry, or frustrated, doing deep breathing and listening to music helps me be more productive or calm. I respectfully advocate for my needs by asking others when I need help and telling my teacher when I don’t understand something. Something I am still trying to develop is that when it seems the good ideas just won’t come to me, I tend to get frustrated and walk away, rather than help calm myself or create space in my mind to continue.

Independent Novel Study Review

The Writing Process

There’s much to say about my experience doing the novel review. I found parts I enjoyed and parts I did not. I enjoyed the process of reading the book as it is very interesting. However, I struggled with finding the plot points as it is somewhat relative. I thought I would have found it more difficult to present in front of the class, but I was surprisingly more calm than I expected.

Core Competency Reflection

I remain open-minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I was deciding on what to do for the initiating incident. I had to choose between two options, and I clearly thought about each option and made a decision based on the evidence. I compile and synthesize information to draw reasoned conclusions, such as when I wrote my reflections and quotes. I assembled a presentation where I stated my thoughts, as well as supported conclusions I drew from the book. I appreciate feedback on my presentation skills and prefer it to come in the form of constructive criticism. Something I need to work on is acquiring information about complex and specialized topics from various sources, synthesizing it, and presenting it with thoughtful analysis. I didn’t put as much thought into my presentation as I would have liked to, so I would like to keep developing the skill.
