Ceramics Final Project

Reflection

“I can develop a body of creative work over time.”

For this project, I decided to use clay to create two peek-a-boo mugs and a plate. I chose the theme, Pond Life, for my final piece because I really wanted to make something with a frog, because I really like them. I also wanted to make mugs, so I thought peek-a-boo mugs were the way to go, along with a lilypad plate to fit the theme. In total, the project took about a month to render, dry, fire, and glaze, and I’m happy with the way it turned out.

Thinking Reflection

“I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas.”

Coming up with ideas for my gnome project was relatively easy, however, pursuing them had some difficulty. Harry, my gnome, looked different in my head during the planning stage compared to his outcome. He would’ve had some minor changes, such as a bow on his hat, fluffier hair and beard, as well as a little dog to go in his basket. One thing I like about ceramics is having an idea, but having to change it when it doesn’t work out or it isn’t what I thought it would look like. An example of that would be the bow on his hat. After I created it, I thought that it would look a lot better without it instead. Something that was challenging about the project was that sometimes, my clay would be too dry, which would cause my clay to crumble. This would be frustrating when dealing with smaller details, but I was able to persevere and everything worked out in the end. There are always some things I wish I added or changed, but overall, I’m happy with my final product.
