Thin crust pizza

This lab happened over the period of two days, as the dough was made a day before and that the rolling/baking portion was finished on the second day. personally, I struggled with rolling it out as I did not get the shape I wanted. Plus the dough was tearing having to take pieces from the side in order to patch it properly. In the end, the final product tasted amazing, being thin and crusty. Having a golden brown finish at bottom and the sides making it very appealing towards the eye.

Fruit skillet cake

After getting back from winter break, as a group we all made a fruit cake with an apple and blueberry topping. Making the entire class room smell wonderful as it bakes longer in the oven. With such an easy recipe it gives the baker no room for error. As the preparation only took 15 min, we had time to ourselves in the end to clean up properly and not feel rushed. Although it does not look appealing to the eye, it tasted fantastic. As the apples was crispy and flavorful, on the other hand, the blueberries was not watery thus giving more texture towards it as you proceed to chew on it. Overall the toppings was amazing so as the cake.

Snowball cookies

Freshly out the oven. Before adding the powdered sugar

Quick and easy, the recipe was simple to follow. Tasting fantastic with the layers of powdered sugar that we added towards the end. Not being too crumbly it was simple to eat as it was a bite size piece. In the end, I would make this over again as it tasted good, being moist and slightly chewy.

Burritos

Although its simple and quick to make, the rice we used was complicated. Being patient with it in order to cook properly. The burrito had fillings such as beans peppers, onions and many filling items that makes you full very easily. Before rolling it completely, we used a cast iron in order warm up the naan bread. Making it delightful as you bite into it. Overall, I would make this again but with a slight twist. Modifying it for a breakfast meal as its simple to grab and go throughout my day.

Sushi

In this quick school lab, we made sushi. It was very simple as all we had to worry about was rolling it neatly and tightly. Having a chance to choose our own ingredients, personally I choose crabs, avocados and cucumbers, being simple enough we added a sauce on top to make it more stand out and presentable. Overall, this lab was very simple as the preparation took minimal effort to make. plus it tasted amazing as the rice was fairly seasoned with sesame oil and just a pinch of salt.

Lava cake

For that week of cooking, we were faced with a lab test. Being able to test our knowledge and put our skills to work without any outside help. This lab went extremely easy I have done this before in the past. Although I haven’t made it recently this lab was easy. The middle being chocolaty as you cut it in half; being runny and the powdered sugar on top compliments all the elements in the dish. Although it was on the sweeter side it still tasted fantastic and chocolaty.

Risotto

In this lab, we made risotto’s. The dish being somewhat healthy, featuring lots of veggies and colors to it. It could have been more creamier with its texture. In addition, the rice was tender and flavorful making it taste fantastic. Although it was a bit unusual due to the fact that I rarely make this at home. In general, the lab went well as all my groups members had their fair share and completed the task at hand with no complications.

Risotto B0lls

For this lab, we made risotto balls. That were left overs from our previous lab as we had far too much. Using eggs as a paste to prevent them from breaking apart as cooked them. In addition, breadcrumbs were used to add a little more texture giving it more of a crunchy texture as you bite into it with the cheese melting in the middle. Overall, the lab went extremely well and was fairly simple having only a few steps.

Christmas Chicken Dinner

In this week, we had a two day lab which we showed great time management skills. My group members and I communicated clearly as we were able to complete this lab without and speed bumps. We have made Maple glazed carrots as our side dish with a chicken breast and stuffing as our main. The chicken was well seasoned, showing no imperfections. The chicken was cooked thoroughly, being moist in the inside giving it a nice texture as you take a piece of it. In addition, the chicken could be pulled apart with no effort. Overall, everything went well as all the components of the dish complimented eachother.

Frittata

Frittata with a side of Guacamole

For this lab, we made frittatas our way. Adding our own veggies that was chosen ahead of time. Upon making this we expected the final product to be well cooked and golden brownish but not over cooked. Making this a healthy breakfast option as it was filled with lots of veggies such as peppers green onions tomatoes and asparagus. Nicely topped with basil towards the end. The side of guacamole was a last minute plan but tasted great with the main dish.
