Core Competency Reflection

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in this presentation. I use quotations from the book to support my claims and can provide interpretations and opinions.

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to keep an open mind and hear what others have to say, respecting their unique viewpoints, and adding my own thoughts and ideas.

I compile and synthesize information to draw reasoned conclusions, such as analysing complex characters in the play such as Willy Loman by trying to use as much evidence from the book and understanding why a series of events might lead an outcome in order to draw a strong conclusion.

One goal I have is to communicate more effectively. I can work towards this goal by making more eye contact with the audience and trying to speak at a slower pace as well as practising my script to be more comfortable speaking about the topic.

English 11 Poetry Reflection

My Poem:

This is my poem about my favourite fruit.

Curricular Competencies Reflection:

The overall purpose of the poem is to describe a special fruit which I enjoy, my using senses and observations. The intended audience of this poem is Ms. Khokhar and myself because now that I look back, I’m able to appreciate some of the descriptors about this special fruit that were said in the poem. Some of the things I did to make my poem engaging is to have the physical fruit in front of me to be able to visualize some of the details of the fruit. In addition, I tasted the fruit to have an accurate interpretation of the taste and texture of the fruit. I used imagery by describing the taste of the fruit and comparing it to other similar things. I also used the physical description of it and described the shape of it.

Creative Thinking Core Competency Reflection:

The options of the topics were given to us in class, in order to decide between them I thought of the most accessible thing I had at home. Luckily, there were some mangoes in the kitchen which happen to be my favourite fruit. I developed my own original ideas by basing my ideas on my observations that I made from the fruit. Some strategies I used to stimulate my imagination is to take a break and give my mind a break this way I was able to create new ideas and rest my eyes. Some innovative things I tried to incorporate in my poem is to add an evolutionary aspect into my poem by explaining the reason why mangoes have such a large seed. I could improve by adding more senses such as touch and smell to get the full imagery of the poem.

L’automne

Dans Coquitlam, le temps est très pluvieux, parce qu’il pleut à peu près 192 jours pour l’année. Il y a quatre saisons ici, mais l’hiver n’est pas trop froid comme autres régions du Canada. Ma saison préférée est l’automne parce que le temp est tempéré, il n’est pas très froid ni chaud. J’aime aussi qu’il y a beaucoup de vent frais et les feuilles de les arbres changent de couleur. Je préfère faire plus d’activités dehors dans cette saison, comme jogging parce c’est n’est pas très chaud parce que je déteste quand j’attrape un coup de soleil dans l’été.

Curricular Competency Reflection

To express myself in this project, I used my notes, my vocab sheet, and a word search on Reverso.net to refer to previous grammar points and vocabulary in order to convey my thoughts appropriately with spelling and grammar. I had access to vocabulary related to weather and used past grammar points such as verb conjugations and gender agreement. I had to adjust significantly on how expressed myself since I wasn’t able to put together such complex sentence structures in French, compared to English. It was a very different writing experience since it took me a longer time in order to write a single sentence since I had to be able to adjust my ideas to make them into simpler sentences. I was personally in a situation where I didn’t know the language and I had to somehow adjust how I expressed myself, I can say that it was pretty difficult, especially since I felt like an outsider since I couldn’t fully express myself so I had a hard understanding my teachers and my peers.

Core Competency Reflection

When it seems the good ideas just won’t come to me, I brainstorm and look for inspiration to create space in my mind and think clearer.

When I am sad, angry or frustrated, listening to music helps me be more productive or calm.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in my writing because its my preferred mode of expression.

One goal I have moving forward, is to be able to grow my communication skills in different areas.
