Curricular Competencies Reflection

For this performance, we performed an arrangement of Merry Go Round of Life from the movie, Howl’s Moving Castle. Because there weren’t any arrangements for violin, clarinet, and piano, we needed to combine sheet music from different arrangements and change some parts to make it work. This piece had many fast passages and difficult transitions between fingerings for notes, but after practicing a lot I was able to play it. An area that I would like to improve on is playing high notes with good tone. Some arrangements for the clarinet had notes that were too high for me to play well, so I had to transpose the notes down an octave. In the future, I would like to be able to play high notes well to broaden the range of music I can play. My plans for continuing music is to continue being part of concert/jazz/pit band at school.

Core Competencies Reflection

Communication + Collaboration

Our group got together very last minute because we were originally two groups who played the same song, so we were combined into one group. I originally played the piano part, so I needed to learn the clarinet part in a short amount of time. I did my part in the group by practicing at home so that we could focus on other issues like playing in sync when we met up for rehearsals. Everyone in our group worked well and participated in rehearsals, and we discussed how to split up the parts between the violin and 2 clarinets. We worked well together and it was very nice meeting Jen and Claire!
