Making and Sharing Reflection

Identify appropriate tools, technologies, food sources, processes, cost implications, and time needed for production

Assess their ability to work effectively both individually and collaboratively, including their ability to share and maintain an efficient co-operative workspace

In the making of this recipe, my group and I ensured that tasks and jobs were divided up in a way that would help us use time efficiently. With this, coordination was a major key in being successful. Hot cast irons, messy spices, two different recipes and a group member that was not able to attend the demo created possibilities in challenges. Fortunately, with the unity we have already formed as a group, communication was easy. Reminding each other that we were available for help if necessary, and that we were all on the same page was familiar. It helped us achieve a cooperation between each other to attain a satisfactory product (personally it was more than satisfactory). In being cost efficient, we also worked together to leave the kitchen with a clean space when we had spare time, and after eating.

Core Competency Reflection

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in…

my regular necessary checks on my other group members in cooking. I made sure to remind them both that they have me to ask if they were unsure on what page the whole group was on (such as which steps where distributed to who, if Ms. Bolli had mentioned a significant note during the demo, etc.), and what steps I am also in. With the experience I had in my group, I felt more comfortable knowing if I needed to pick up the pace or slow down a little to ensure that my group and I were time cost efficient, but still maintained a coordination. With this in mind, I made sure that they felt that comfort too if they needed it.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I…

take the time to observe how my skills and weaknesses compare to theirs. In some situations, I can be also be a bit of a “control freak”. Knowing this, I try my best to calm myself down at times, and acknowledge my own responsibilities as well as my peers. This helps me ensure that I am providing an equal participation to my peers.

I show others that I truly value their contributions by…

celebrating their own achievements. I try to be as encouraging as I can when cooking with my peers, as some may have worries at times (as I do my own). An example of this is when we did Halloween Treats: after going around and observing my peers’ products, I made sure to tell them when I though they did a really good job.
