Core Competency Goals

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to listen to what everyone has to say and logically figure it out. When there is a disagreement in a group I am in I let one person speak at a time and hear what they have to say. I like to be able to put both of their arguments into consideration and if it is possible combine what they both have to say together. I have done this before in other groups that I’ve been in and I find that it works well.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I like to take a little break from what I am doing. If I can’t focus on something I need to take my mind off what I was doing and have a fresh start. When I take a break sometimes I’ll go for walks and enjoy the out doors or I will go on my phone for a little.

When I am sad, angry or frustrated, doing school work or homework I try to let the negative thoughts good and look at all the positive things in my life. I like to ignore the bad and do things that make me happy. If my school work or homework is making me upset or frustrated I’ll stop doing it and take time away from it. I’ll start doing things that make me and when I feel better I will come back to it with a fresh mind and start.

Wood Reflection

During the second semester of wood working I dislocated my shoulder out of school. Due to my injury I couldn’t use the power tools making it hard to work on the table top project. I had to problem solve on what I would do so, Mr. Huber and I talked and I suggested to use the CNC machine to cut out a sign. I used Fusion360 to create my sign. I was successful in achieving my goal of creating the sign.

Self Reflection

This project shows off my skills of researching up information, using the information and data to put it into a PowerPoint. The project fills the Critical and Reflective thinking and Social Awareness and Responsibility. From doing the Science and Technology project I leant about SONAR technology. I learnt about how they used it in the war and I learnt about how we use it in modern time for things like fishing.

Core Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements. During this project I had to research information and at the end of the project I had to make an ethical judgment of if is a good thing or a bad thing.

I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. When working on projects I like to put all my effort into it. I have a lot of pride in my work because I try my best and I like to go above and beyond. I feel good about my work when I get a good grade on it and I feel rewarded.

I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. I am able to put information onto a PowerPoint from a topic of interest in an organized manner. I can follow the rubric given to me and make sure all the information required is there.

Personal Health & Awareness

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle include working out, eating healthy, and playing sports. I try to go to the gym as much as I can throughout the week. I aim to go 3-4 times. I do my best to eat as healthy as I can and avoid eating food that is not good for me often. I try to eat more and more vegetables everyday and have a balance diet. I play sports outside of school like basketball, flag football and sometimes I’ll play soccer, but not with a club.

Core Competency Reflection

I find it easy to be part of a group because I can get along with others and I am a good leader. I am a good leader because I can identify when someone need help and I make sure that everyone is included.

I can identify and describe my qualities. I am a leader, creative and I am inclusive. I am able to quickly think on the spot and come up with creative strategies. I try my best to include everyone when we play games.

I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. I will usually take on the leader role, but I am very flexible and I am able to change my role.

I am kind to others, and support others when they need it. I can recognize when others on my team or in my class need help. I can notice when someone feels left out so I’ll pass the ball to them and help them out.

Linear System Group Assignment

Purpose

Our group’s job was to create our own linear systems and show how to represent it on a graph and using an algebraic method

Curricular Response

While creating our linear systems we used words like Substitution method , Addition method, Linear system, and Solution. Substitution method is an algebraic method to solve linear equations. Substitution method is when you isolate one of the variable in the equation. In the picture above we isolated the the Y variable (y=2x + 3). Addition method also known as elimination method is adding the two equations together to get an answer with one variable. My group talked about different linear systems and how some linear systems would be easier to do then others. Linear system is just another name for linear equations. Solution refers to the two values where the two lines meet. When you use precise vocabulary you’ll be less likely to say the wrong thing and you can’t make an error on what you are trying to say.

When trying to solve our solution, the group decided to use substitution method because we already had one of the variables isolated. We plugged in y=2x+3 to 5x+2y=-12 by doing this we were able to find out the solution.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

During this assignment I worked with a few classmates to achieve the goal of creating out own linear system that has two different, non-parallel lines. We had to graph the linear systems we created and find the solution. I did my part in in the group by helping create the linear systems, doing the writing portion on the board, and how to find the solution and find the easiest way to do it. When working in a group I realize that sometimes other might not agree on things because we look at it from different perspectives. I find that its easy to work in a group because I am good at leading the group or help supporting the group on where they need it. I feel like I am able to be flexible on what role I play in the group.

Linear and Non-Linear Equations

Linear Equations

Example 1:

This is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because it is a straight line. I can tell from the equation because the variables have an exponent of 1.

Example 2:

This is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because it is a straight line. I can tell from the equation because the variable has an exponent of 1.

Non-Linear Equations

Example 1:

This is a non-linear equation. I can tell from the graph because it is not a straight line. I can tell from the equation because the variable x has an exponent of 2.

Example 2:

This is a non-linear equation. I can tell from the graph because it is not a straight line. I can tell from the equation because the x variable has an exponent of 3.

Self Assessment

I explored mathematical ideas using technology when I used Desmos to create graphs.

I analyzed data and used criteria to draw conclusions when I had to figure out if it’s a linear or non-linear equation by looking at the equation.

I justified my conclusions with evidence when I wrote my explanations on if it is or isn’t a linear equation.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility: How I manage school-related stress

I can prevent some school-related stress by doing my best to complete the work in class, so it reduces my work load. I can also ask my teacher or my class-mates for help.

When I make mistakes, I don’t beat myself up. Instead I reflect on my mistake and think of how I could do better next time.

When I am feeling anxious about a test, I can calm myself by studying little sections at a time, so I don’t overwhelm myself.

Some of the things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy include eating healthy and getting daily exercise.

My Model Town

Creating A Model Factory Town

Name of the town:

St. Charles

Company Name:

Charles’ Cotton

Resources available:

Cotton and trees

Elements of the town:

Body of water that they used as a source of energy, flat with no hills or mountains and is rich in soil

Population:

378

Explanation / Brief History:

Founded by a ruthless British explorer in 1846. His name is David Charles. Mr. Charles and his crew built the town with all the trees in the area. Making houses, factories, and mills. Mr. Charles is mostly known for being a brutal oversee of the workers in the town. He did not care about their life or how they were treated, he only cared about himself and making money.

Media Fluency Reflection

How was the ease of access in building the town, despite this being a very super basic software?

I really liked how simple it was to do everything. Resizing the objects are were simple and moving them around was easy.

Were you able to apply the skills you learned in the planning stages appropriately to a digital environment?

A little bit. I found it hard to make trees but doing everything else was easy.

What were the sources you researched that made this an “authentic make-believe” town?

The sources I used and researched were from the book Lyddie, worksheets we did in class and the notes I have taken.

Is there other software online that could have done the job better? Explain. I think there are better software options because I thought it was too simple and I could not draw anything in my town. Besides that, it was good and fun.
