Bedroom Project

I demonstrated critical and creative thinking during this project. I used my creative thinking skills to find different bedroom items to fit into the bedroom and calculate their prices. We were introduced to a new program called excel, during the beginning I found the app difficult and frustrating to use. I asked questions and used my critical thinking skills to learn how to operate the app. I was able to take feedback from peers on how to improve my project and organization. I was able to use different colours and put in equations to represent my learning.

Comprehend and Connect

During class we read different texts relating to the Tricksters. During this assignment I learnt how to connect my big ideas after reading the Trickster stories. I grew in my reading skills because while I was evaluating the stories, I was able to take big ideas from the texts and put it into a visual concept map. The concept map shows understanding of the relationships between different ideas and showing how concepts are connected. I can use this new knowledge I gained from the text and put it into reconciliation.

Creative thinking- During this assignment I used my creative thinking skills to complete this assignments. I formed and developed different ideas and created a visual concept map to show my creativity. Some strategies I used was taking notes of the important points while I was reading through the texts. This allowed me to look back on the key points. Next time I would improve and add more information to extend my thinking and connections.

Art and Metal Jewlery 12

As being apart of Mr.Petersons art and metal jewelry class we have started on our rose. In grade 9 I already made a rose but I forgot a lot of the steps. Our first step was cutting out the rose outlines on the sheet metal. I found this layout worked well for me. I did have troubles shaping the roses petals and some of the petals turned out uneven. Next time I would have been more careful when cutting around the outline. The next step in this project was operating the oxy acetylene torch, I was nervous about the flame at first but once I was guided and worked through it I felt more confident. Once I got comfortable enough I used the jewelry torch and brought some cool colours out of my project. I still needed help setting up but each time I will try and improve. I am also nervous about electrical welding. Overall I am pleased how my project looks. Here is a picture of the jewelry torch and my project.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Core Competency

Should our criminal justice system be more punitive or rehabilitative? Why? 

Our criminal system should be more rehabilitative because there are programs from psychologists and criminologists. Rehabilitative prevents crime by giving society and the victims a feeling of satisfaction. Rehabilitation could help them regain their strength, relearn skills, or find new ways of doing things. If you have rehabilitation this can guide you to possibly a better lifestyle. Can reduce future criminal behaviour. I can analyze evidence to make judgements. When working on assignments, I will ask questions when confused and work through the case with critical and creative thinking.

Spanish Review Dialogue

When completing this Spanish dialogue we worked as a team to complete the common goal. We used creative thinking to expand our ideas and vocabulary within the dialogue. We looked at our note sheets if we stumbled across a problem. We collaborated as a group and asked questions when we were confused. I am proud of this Spanish dialogue assignment. 

Core Competency Self-Assessment

During this assignment I was able to collaborate and communicate with my partner while completing this assignment. We were able to work together to classify different organisms and identify diferent buttons so we can sort them accordingly. We asked questions and use critical thinking when we ran into any problems. The two of us both contributed and communicated to complete a common goal to organize and identify the unique buttons. We wrote down ideas, shared thoughts, and worked as a group to achieve the common goal. In the end we completed the assignment successfully.

Core Competency Goals

I make an effort to include missing voices/ perspectives by communicating and discussing with others in my group. When working in a group environment I ensure that everyone has a voice and opinion when completing a task, assignment, or projects. To include others I ask them their opinion and stay open minded. We work through questions as a group and listen to each other.

I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I was curious to hear about others ideas. When working on my IDS project I considered my friends ideas on their Inquiry Project. I remained open minded when I listening about their topics.

If I notice my group needs help and we can get support by working together to solve the problem or talk to a teacher. We kept track of our group responsibility. A prime example was when I was working on my Spanish presentation. We made sure everyone had a chance to talk and problem solve as a group. We kept a realistic perspective when we were seeking help.

Games Written Assignment

During this semester I have utilized strategic thinking when playing the card game cheat. I determined and analyzed my winning tragedies after our first games day. I started off with facial expressions and trying to mind trick my opponents that I am lying by making a certain facial expression. I realized that my opponents where picking up on my facial expressions. I noticed different patterns that during one game I would lie 50% of the time. The second game I would lie about 20% of the time. This pattern helped me play better because I didn’t have a specific pattern of when I would lie. This strategy helped me win some of the games. When you are unpredictable it can be hard to tell when you spill a lie. I think games days levelled up my critical thinking and help me analyzed my thinking strategies.

Creating and Communication

When I wrote my simpsons essay I was able to express my learning about Irony, satire, and allusion during this in class essay. I was able to learn about this concept in class with notes and class discussion. After note taking, we watched The Simpsons. I was able to connect Irony, satire, and allusion while watching the show. I expressed my ideas with including the skills I learned to write better. I had a strong thesis sentences leading me into my three main points. I wrote about the reversal of expectation, irony, and dark truth. I explained how they included it into the show for humour. I wrote about Homers actions when he said “people aren’t that bad” Then an angry mob of people turn the corner.

Core Competency Reflection

  1. I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work. I created three main points and a strong thesis sentence that made a smooth entrance into my essay. I used the knowledge and notes from Mr.Cooks lessons on how to write a well structured essay.
  2. An example of where I built upon others ideas was when we were watching The Simpsons we had discussions about the allusions and Irony included throughout the episodes. I was able to build off of the classes and Mr.Cooks ideas and examples.
  3. I used evidence and judgments as demonstrated when I wrote about scenes that describe irony specifically situational irony.
