WOODWORK 12

Electric Guitar

This semester, I am working on a electric guitar, which is a difficult project for me sometimes, considering that I didn’t take wood last year and it took me some time to get used to things again.

This is my progress so far. I have finished the neck, and added the oil finishing. and I have encountered some challenges getting up to this point.

  1. Placing in the truss rod was a challenge. To line up the truss rod hole perfectly on the neck, I placed the neck face down on a table and the truss rod right next to it. Then I used a ruler (my friend held it) and I traced it. Before I drilled I practiced on a scrap piece of wood. (PHOTO A)
  2. Another hard part for this project was applying the frets. To make sure I knew what i was doing I did all the steps for one fret as a test. (PHOTO B)

Overall, this is a very fun project and I’m looking forward to see the end result. I’m also very happy with how everything turned out so far.

Separation Agreement

Seperation Scenario

Partner 1: Hojun Partner 2: Tony

About the Project

In this project, Hojun and I were getting a divorce, and we had to agree on a seperation agreement. First, we had to negotiate to try to get the things we want. During this, we had to take notes, and make calculations. Second, we used a website, which helped us make a separation agreement. Last, we did a reflection on the project. I got full marks on my note taking, got all or most of what i wanted, wrote a good seperation agreement and did a good reflection. My final mark in this project was 40/44.

Core Competency Reflection

  1. I can work with others to achieve a goal- Hojun and I were negotiating at first, which was a solo thing, but after that we worked together to create a seperation agreement, which was one of the goals.
  2. I can recognize different points of view and can disagree respectfully- I can see the different point of views for both side in the negotiation process and I know how to disagree with some of Hojun’s statements.
  3. I can explain when something is unfair and advocate for others- During the negotiation process, there were some unfair requests that Hojun made and I was able to convince him to change his mind.
  4. I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself- I was really happy with the results of this project, and I got all or most of what I wanted.

Goal: I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences.

Next time, if I were to do this project again, I would research on the average child support and spousal support amounts, and the rules on it, and use my knowledge on it to do my negotiation, because I feel like that was the only part I was ripped off on.

Core Competency Reflection

This project let me see what it is like to be in a seperation. It was a very real sitiuation, but I know that in real life, everything would be more intense. It allowed me to be a part of a process I wish I wouldnt have to go through when I’m married.

Chemistry- Lab 6B

About the Activity

In this activity, there were multiple objectives. First, we had to understand the chemical reaction between solutions of calcium chloride and sodium carbonate, forming insoluble calcium carbonate. Then we had to calculate the number of moles of each of the starting materials present in the solutions. We had to determine and understand the reactant that is in excess and understand the theoretical amount of calcium carbonate that could be produced. We also had to compare the theoretical amount to the actual amount of calcium carbonate and calculate the percent yield. First, we poured about 75.0±0.5mL of sodium Carbonate into a graduated cylinder. Then we poured about 50.0±0.5mL of Calcium Chloride into the graduated cylinder. Then we stirred the contents for about 1 minute. After the solid settled inside the graduated cylinder, we set up a filter paper in a funnel and filtered the solid out. In the end, my partner and I were successful at producing the calcium carbonate and making the necessary calculations. Overall it was a fun lab.

Core Competency Reflection

  1. I can work with others to achieve a goal- In this lab, we each had a lab partner and it was important that we worked together so we could finish the tasks.
  2. I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way- I understood what the lab was about and how to do the calculations, then I used that information to finish my lab paper.
  3. I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences- while writing my lab paper, the lessons taught by the teacher during the past few days made the work a lot easier.
  4. I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself- This lab had lots of components to it plus the analysis and calculations after. I was happy with what my partner and I accomplished.

Law-Case Brief

About the Activity

In this activity, I had to pick a supreme court of Canada case and write a case brief about it. I chose the R. v. Big M Drug Mart, where the supermarket was accused and charged with illegally carrying on sale on a Sunday, contrary to the Lord’s Day Act of 1906. We had to include those involved, case history, facts about the case, issues, ratio dicidendi (the judge’s reason for deciding the way he/she did), holding, and the analysis.

Core Competency Reflection

  1. I can analyze evidence to make judgements- Part of the activity was to give your opinions on the case, for example, if you agree with the sentencing or not.
  2. I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way- I understood what the case was about, then used that information to write a clear, organized case brief
  3. I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences- while writing my case brief, the stuff my teacher taught in class helped make the activity a lot easier.
  4. I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself- This activity took a while to finish because there were a lot of components. After I finished I was pretty happy with my work.

Goal: I consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation.

There are lots of ways to analyze a case. Next time I will try another way, for example watching a documentary.

When I was searching my name up on Google, I couldn’t find any information that was about me. This is probably because I rarely post anything on my social media. I usually just watch videos or see what my friends are posting.

A person’s digital footprint is important because it might affect you if you’re trying to get a job or apply for a school. My teacher once said that whatever you do now on the internet will leave a trace and that in interviews, the first or last thing they do is search you up on social media. It is important to keep that in mind and think twice about what you’re commenting next time.

Reflection

For this project, I decided to use Canva as my medium because the way it lets u drag pictures and paragraphs around is very useful. I used a lot of online encyclopedias because they are more reliable and have less chance of error. I was pretty satisfied with the result but next time I think I can do more research on the topic first before I start designing.

In this project, I was able to identify the problem and solve it with ease by searching it up. I would say that the hard part was to dream about how it would be better in the future. Overall, I am satisfied with the result of my project, but next time I would start a little bit earlier to have time to really check if there is anything that needs to be changed.
