Why We Keep Our Instagram Account Protected
We usually keep our Instagram accounts protected mainly because of hacking or if you make sales or buy stuff off Instagram. When you’re creating your profile another way to keep your profile safe is to NOT add your phone number and do not accept random messages because they could try and sell you stuff and ask for private info or credit card number. And especially dot add any location to any of your posts unless you want people coming to that location. Don’t click fishy links because it can lead you to an unsecured web page that can cause a virus and have a hacker get access to private info. Always make your account private because only people you want can look at your posts and don’t show every detail on Instagram about your life. You can’t become completely invisible on Instagram; at the very least, your username will visible.
Personal/Social Core Competency Self-Assessment:
There are consequences to not keeping your Instagram account protected. Some of the bad consequences are; getting your account hacked, getting pop-ups, a virus, and personal information shared. The benefits of keeping your accounts protected, is your personal information is not shared unless you give permission.
My mom always told me to be careful of the things I post because once it’s out there, we can’t take it back. Future employers can and do look you up, maybe not at my age now but in a few years when I want a serious career.
Another dangerous part of social media, is the unwanted exposure. A video, a picture, a text, anything you might post can be shared and end up being viral. What people may see from that post, might not be exactly true or what was really happening. This too can ruin someone’s life.
