Genetics Unit – Beginning

Genetically altering physical characteristics can be described as the greatest dream, as well as the greatest nightmare.  Using genetic modification to make the next generation have better genes, genetic testing is performed on the embryos cultivated from these fertilized eggs to see if they have inherited disease genes, and the “most healthy” (least inherited disease genes) embryos are selected for implantation.  into the mother’s body, allowing it to develop into a fetus.

 The downside is that modifications are not necessarily successful and are risky.  Modified genes may carry viruses.  Also in terms of food, genetically modified foods may contain new substances that are toxic or cause allergic reactions.
