Ma Famille

Compared to the little French I knew back at the start of the semester, I’ve gained much more knowledge about French culture and just being able to speak the language. This includes ways to pronounce words, being able to hold a conversation in French and recognizing sentences. I enjoyed trying using my creative skills to make this project and get a better understanding/ usage of French.

PHE 9 AH Reflection

My Stressors

I believe that many of my stress-related problems come from me overthinking and freaking out. There has been a number of moments where I felt overwhelmed from the amount of schoolwork given because I always try my best to meet my own expectations. I’ve also experienced being in drama and trust me, it sucks. You gain so much pressure from the people around you and lots of people start talking about it which isn’t the best first impression. A lot of things that happen in drama are hurtful and never good. When I went through that I had an incredible load on me that made me feel so down. To deal with it, I tried communicating with the other person to resolve the conflict and talk with my friends and family to vent and get their advice. I also would take some time off my devices and go on a walk or cook up some food. It definitely gave me some time to think and let go of my problems even for just a little bit. Therefore, if you face a problem or are just stressed in general, take a break and do something you enjoy.

Core Competency Reflection

I ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. For example, when I am confused on a PE test, I always go up to the teacher and ask what it means.

I am kind to others, and support others when they need it. Especially when my friends or others in this class are shy, I always cheer them on to make them feel more encouraged. I just want to treat others good like how I want to be treated.

I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. In relevance to PE, I try to do group activitues efficiently or as much as I can so I can be a good teammate to others.

My goal is to be more active and try to be more involved with the sport were doing in PE.

Core Competency Reflection

What are you good at?

  • I am good at playing flute and working hard on my schoolwork.

Describe something you really liked in the work you did. What made it special for you?

  • For me, I really liked the wings in my drawing because it reminds me of being able to fly free and to pursue anything.

How have your experiences, family history, heritage and/or peers helped shape who you are today?

  • My family has definitely made a big impact on me. I love my culture and food, events and language a lot because it’s a big part of my life. Much of my life has been circled around the Korean culture I’ve learned about and even my taste depicts a lot on it. Although, I couldn’t have learned about any of this without my family. They have taught me many things and given me advice on topics I need help on. They support me in times of need and give me reassurance whenever I need it. Overall, the people around me and my culture has helped me in many ways and changed me a lot in positive ways.

How do you make good decisions? What influences your decisions?

  • Whenever I feel like I am making a bad decision or are rethinking things, I try to put the pros and cons before me. This is so I can realize what is happening before I take actions that I might regret. My friends influence me a lot when it comes to decisions I make because honestly, I’m an indecisive person. Nevertheless, I always try to think things through before doing anything important.

What makes you unique?

  • I think the fact that I stress and overthink way too much when it comes to anything. I don’t always seem like I’m anxious, and that I’m more carefree when it comes to schoolwork and other problems, but in truth I freak out an enormous amount I think to an extent more than other people. I believe this is because for my entire life, I’ve always worked hard and hoped to be good at everything, but when I don’t meet my own expectations I become disappointed and worry.

Core Competency Reflection

I respectfully advocate for my needs by asking the teacher a question and what I need help/advice on. If they’re busy, I can always go to a friend or to the people around me to make sure I am not having difficulty with whatever the problem is.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I go on my device and take a short break. It always quickly energizes me and if that doesn’t work, I go on a walk while listening to some chill music. This helps with the focus aspect, because it gives me a breather and lowers my stress levels.

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle include paying attention in class and making sure to not procrastinate. I also make sure to keep up my social, mental, and physical wellbeing so that my life isn’t just revolved around studying and stress.

I appreciate feedback on the mistakes I make and prefer it comes in the form of constructive criticism. I like knowing my inaccuracies so that in the future, I remember to do things differently. Although, if it’s just full on commentary without any proper feedback, I will overthink it and won’t know properly what to fix for next time.

Technology & Wellbeing Reflection

When I encounter stress, it has always been so overwhelming and mentally exhausting. It’s often caused by a large amount of schoolwork and comparing myself to other people, for both real life and social media. I don’t have a solution for boosting my self-esteem, but I do manage my stress levels by just going out for a walk and listening to some music. It always calms me down since I’m by myself and rejuvenates my energy. On certain days, I just don’t have the energy to walk, which is why I enjoy reading Manga’s instead. All my thoughts about my actual life are washed away until I finish focusing on the story at hand. Therefore, I believe technology is beneficial to me coping with stress. It has a wide variety of different things online that can make me happy and less swamped. Even if it does cause me some insecurity, I think it gives me more positive feelings than negative.

Meal Planning Assignment

Problem:

A family of four needs help designing a meal plan, but there are specific requirements that must be met. The plan has to be adjusted to their schedule, so that it all works out. They said each person should cook at least one day of the week, everyone has to be home when they have the meal, and the number of servings should be four unless there’s an outside factor. Obviously, they wanted us to include who’s making the food, the serving size, which one it is, and the time they cook/ have dinner.

Solution:

So this is what my group came up with:

Justification:

On Monday, Parent B will cook Chickpea Cauliflower Curry. This is a good choice because it isn’t too difficult of a recipe after they finish their work that day. Plus, it usually takes only 25 minutes meaning that by the time Parent B finishes cooking, Parent A will already be home and ready to eat dinner with their family. The cooking time is reasonable since Parent A and the two teens will have enough time to rest and do a short activity while dinner is getting prepared. In addition, Parent A needs to leave for an event at 8pm, so they have to eat between 6 to 8. If you see the serving size, you can tell that there will be four extra portions of food which will ultimately get packed for lunch the next day as leftovers.

On Tuesday, Parent A and Teen 1 will cook Tuna Casserole. This is a good choice because the days they have to cook will be more fair since we don’t want only one person to cook for the entire week. Plus, Tuna Casserole takes around 45 minutes which is pretty boring if you’re by yourself, so I put one of the teens and the parents together as a kind of “bonding time.” The family is having their friends come over, so the recipe I chose had lots of servings. Also, the time they eat will give Teen 2 enough time for themselves to get ready to go to their activity.

On Wednesday, Teen 2 will cook Black Bean Tacos. This is a good choice because it is a simple tasty meal that only takes 15 minutes to make. Especially since Teen 2 can only make easy recipes with the exception of cooking with one of the parents. The serving size is four because there is no one coming over and they don’t need to make leftovers for lunch tomorrow, making it the perfect portion for them to eat. Teen 2 will start making the tacos at 5:50pm and finish at 6:05pm so that Parent A will come 8 minutes before they start dinner. Moreover, Teen 1 must leave at 7pm, giving her enough time to eat before departing.

On Thursday, Parent A will cook Tonkatsu, Cabbage, and Rice. This is a good choice because it is a delicious food that can eat all together. Parent A is making this since it is their specialty, they come home earlier, and so that the work is equal. The time they start cooking is at 5:10pm until 5:45pm which means they will start dinner earlier because it is their favorite food. Instead of having people work on the same day they have an activity to do, I thought it would be less work to cook on the days they don’t have an evening event.

On Friday, Teen 1 will cook Chicken Noodle Soup. This is a good choice because the family’s grandparents are coming over and Teen 1 wanted to surprise them with their cooking skills. The extra two servings will go to them and since there are no evening activities for any of the individuals, I thought it would be pleasant for them to just have a good family meal together. Dinner starts at 6:30pm so that everyone has extra time to get ready because they want to look presentable in front of them.

New Recipe:

Tonkatsu, Cabbage, and Rice

Number of Servings: 4

Time to make: 45 minutes

Difficulty level: Medium

Collaboration Reflection:

To begin with, our group first had a small conversation on teams and then we went onto the word document. On that document, I discussed the tasks that we needed to fulfill and after some discussion, we finally wrote down the roles each person had. While we were chatting, there were a few difficulties that had occurred. Some of these problems being the inability to directly communicate face to face and the complication while using word. During our dividing of work, two of the members were having trouble deciding which task they wanted to do which caused us to be a bit delayed. Moreover, when we typed on word, it would show up as locked meaning that we couldn’t type on the same line but we just worked around it instead. There was also a time when people weren’t doing their work and since communicating online wasn’t getting through, we just briefly talked about it in person making sure everyone was back on task. For me, I had to decide which family member cooks on which day, but I was sick the first time we were working on it. So when I came back, I made sure to get informed about what had happened so far and tried to contribute as much as I could. The meal plan that was already made was still incomplete for some of the days and parts of it didn’t make sense. Therefore, I created a newly organized one, filled in the missing days and changed some parts that didn’t make sense. Plus, I put in pictures and found recipes with links to make sure we had all the necessary components.

Self Assessment: Collaboration & Critical Thinking

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I try my best to be respectful and attentive so that we can get get along and understand each other. For instance, some people had question on parts of the assignment so I tried to explain and be in touch in case they need help again.

I know the group is working well together when I hear/see texts on teams and conversations on word where the group is helping one another if they encounter a problem. In addition, there are times when I have to go to someone’s table if they aren’t looking at the messages or if there is a difficulty involving technology.

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is what you see here, the entire Edu blog post and checklist Ms. Lam had handed out. I made sure to follow the instructions and put a little twist on some parts as well to make it more unique.

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in the solution section. As you see up above, it is a neatly organized meal plan, but what you don’t see is the work behind it. The one you see is a modified version of the original. I chose to make this second version because I could tell it didn’t make sense for certain segments in the first form. This decision worked out well in the end.

Persuasion and Advertisement Techniques

As you see here, there is an advertisement for the brand, “Cloud 5.” It is intended for onlookers to become interested and purchase this shoe. In addition, it shows that a purchase will contribute to the well-being of others in less fortunate circumstances. This is part of the emotional factor as it gives the rewarding feeling of compassion and it boosts your self-esteem/self satisfaction. The slogan gives off a message about how it is so comfortable, and the fluffy background picture assists in this particular subject. There is given enough detail, yet doesn’t overload you with information which makes it perfect for a concise advertisement. It uses emotional appeal because it invokes the audience to have empathy for others. One of the persuasive techniques would be public service appeal especially since it wins the people’s favor and also the company would now have a reputation of caring about others.

Core Competency Reflection

For me, I make sure to ask and respond to questions to be an active and supportive listener. After some of my classmates finished their presentations, I would ask them to clarify the things I didn’t understand. There were times I had also answered individuals and made sure everybody understood their tasks. In my group project I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. This has been something I always excel in. Sometimes, I even do extra work! We all did our parts and made sure to finish this assignment both thoroughly and on time. When I had a different opinion on what we wanted to do, I gave new ideas so that we could compromise and all come to a conclusion. After I finished making the poster and Alexis colored, the work I had done made me satisfied and fulfilled. The time and effort I put into it and the fact that I gave it my all was pleasing.

Core Competencies Used: I ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. I recognize different points of view and can disagree respectfully. I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. I advocate for myself. I can form new ideas to create new things.

About Me

My Bio

Hi! I’m Grace and I would like to describe myself as an introverted and cheerful person. Whenever I have free time, I enjoy reading Korean comics and having a fun time with my friends, but sometimes I spend too much money. Often times, we do activities together that involve sports or cooking food. Without a doubt, volleyball is one of my favourite sports. I don’t know why, but just keeping a ball up in the air is so entertaining especially if it’s up for a long time. Baking is also a hobby that makes me feel both confused and accomplished. In particular, when my measuring cups don’t match up with the recipe. From time to time, I just lay in my bed or go on a walk and listen to some music. Personally, it’s one of the best stress relieving things out there. Most times I turn on songs that leave a warmhearted feeling inside and play them for hours. I always choose based on how I’m feeling that day. Besides that, I have a habit of leaving small drawings on my paper if there’s space since it’s a quick activity to do, but they don’t always look the best. If I were to say what I’m bad at, it would definitely be technology and the motivation to do anything. That’s why my goals are to be more efficient and lead a more organized life. I hope you enjoyed reading a little about me:)

My Favourite Website

https://ca.shein.com/?ref=www&rep=dir&ret=ca

Online shopping is the best thing ever! Even if I’m not getting anything, just browsing through and looking at the clothes give me a burst of serotonin. It’s that feeling where you get excited for the slightest chance that you could buy it. One time, I was on this website for two hours just exploring and talking with my friends through call. It’s truly a delightful place to go if you’re bored.

My Favourite Video

The video you see above is a three hour vlog of just studying while listening to music. After watching a small bit, I must say I am impressed with how hard she is working. It gives me motivation to put in more effort, so that others can also be inspired by my work habits just like what this person is doing here.

My Favourite Image

To start off, I recently found this picture off the internet and decided to use this for my image. There was another photo that inspired me before I found this one, but there was no creative commons license. I’m still content with this one too. For me, the view looks spectacular and makes me fantasize about life itself. There are many emotions I go through whenever I see it and that’s why I chose this specifically.
