My digital Footprint
I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences. One of the negative consequences of my digital footprint is that prolonged uses of the digital footprint result in eye strain which at times leads to me being unable to sleep at night due to the blue light. This further results in my cognitive functioning during the day to not be 100%. This is probably the most extreme case of my result of digital footprint. However, another negative consequence is procrastination. Now if I’m being totally honest we all procrastinate and with the help of my phone tablet etc. It further helps with the procrastination process. It almost justifies the act of procrastination. On the contrary I would not say that it is all negative due to my digital footprint i feel i am more up to date with the current affairs going on in the world also coming out of the pandemic i feel that it really helped me to cope and was a form of a ‘getaway’ to put it simply. However, with that being said coming out of the pandemic that positive turns into a negative and somehow creates a paradox.
Online Support Network
My online support network is extremely important to me as during the pandemic it was very hard to cope without physically being able to see and talk to people, therefore as a substitute engaging with people online and them slowly becoming your support network is not only how I but a lot of people coped. It was a shock to a lot of people. However, i feel if friendships can survive in an online format they can survive almost anywhere. In my personal experience moving from my home country of Kenya and coming to Canada was not the easiest of transitions especially during a pandemic. However the support systems that i made over time was a sort of hope which made transitioning between places a little easier. For this reason i really value my support systems and with the world going more so digital i feel it is becoming more and more important to have an online support network.
My Goals
Some short/ long term goals with my digital spaces include not to limit my time on social media as much as it is a really good escape at times and i feel social media has an ever increasing impact on all of our lives, however i feel at times it can be quite ‘toxic’ and it is ever important to take a break from it. Another thing i would like to do is spend more quality time with my parents and not forever being on my phone/ social media. I feel that at times i take my family for granted and i really want to start valuing them and the time we have together. I also want to reduce the time i spend on my devices and online gaming and use that time to exercise more frequently and spend more time outside as it can be quite good for your mental health as well as your physical health. More importantly, i want to improve my skills in Microsoft Home, as i feel it is extremely important as i am heading into grade 10 and my university career is not too far from starting and at that point it will be a part of my everyday thing.
Internet Safety
Firstly use technology and the internet for prolonged amount of times can seriously eye strain on your eyes. However you could download the screen limiting apps in order to serve as a reminder that it is time to take a break. Another thing that you could do is to use eye drops in during prolonged periods of strain. Now, when searching on the internet we all have an IP address which simply put is your digital address. Hackers can use this information to target your exact location and use it for further identity theft. You should use a VPN which is called a virtual Protective Network. It helps to hide your IP address from not only hackers but also from your internet service provider.
