Year End Reflection

Over this year, I made some growth in music. I am now more comfortable with my flute. I’ve learnt many new techniques from watching videos and asking band peers and I learnt new components such as key signatures, accents, and dynamics. Something I did differently from last year is the amount of practice I put into playing my flute. I realized how hard it was to keep up with the band if I didn’t practice. Almost every day I put in a minimum of 15 minutes into practicing music to improve. After each concert I get more comfortable with performing in front of an audience. Going on stage and performing has always been outside my comfort zone but I am feeling more relaxed with going on stage, but I still get nervous before a performance.  Working with different types of rhythms and melodies of songs has also helped me improve. We worked with slow tempo songs and fast tempo songs and learnt more about the different types of music. During small ensembles I learnt to make my own schedule for the performance and my group had to discuss the times when they were able to practice. My group gave out their ideas and their thoughts on how the performance could be better. Overall, I believe I showed some growth in music. I feel more confident with my ability to play the flute compared to the beginning of this year. I hope I can gain new experiences and skills in the future.
