Curricular Competencies Reflection

Some guitar skills I have shown success with this year are my solo abilities due to learning about and practicing different scales on the guitar. Some skills I would like to improve on include my barre chords and my ability to memorize the notes of each guitar string, as well as memorizing the notes that make up different scales so I can use them easily. I will do this by testing myself on my knowledge by making the chord shapes in different scales and looking at their name, so that when I see a chord or am told to make one, I know what shape it is on the scale. My plans for the future in terms of guitar are to continue playing in my free time and improve on my own as it is one of my hobbies.

Communication Core Competency – Collaboration

In group performances, I tried to make sure that all members of my group maximized our time so we had enough opportunity to work out any problems before a performance. I noticed that I often initiated conversation as to what was or wasn’t working, and we all worked together to count out timing so that we were all playing together. The process of practicing started with trying it a few times to see what needed improvement, and then working through those sections slowly and repeatedly before we combined all sections to create our full performance. We would drill the full performance back to back to ensure we could do it multiple times in a row, and if not, we understood that we still needed to practice.
