Mon Autobiographie

L’hiver

Le temps ici est très beau. Il y a beaucoup de neige en hiver, et il fais très chaud en été. Il y a quatre saisons. J’aime les printemps parce que j’aime les fleurs. Dans l’hiver, j’aime jouer au hockey. J’aime patiner aussi. J’aime voyage en hiver. Je suis allée à Hawaii en hiver avant.

Curricular Competency Reflection

While completing this assignment, I had difficulty wit language fluency and finding the correct words and grammar usage. Once I found my inspiration, the sentences came easily and I found it was easy to complete thoroughly. I had to reflect on lessons I learned in the past to be able to complete this assignment. Learning a separate language from my initial language is very difficult to master fluency in, and I would understand that it would be a challenge for someone if they had lived in a different part of the world with little to no knowledge of the spoken language there, and to have to learn it themselves.

Core Competency Reflection

When faced with ambiguity or setbacks, I find inspiration by talking to a friend or peer to advance the development of my ideas. 
When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I immerse myself in my hobbies and interests, such as listening to music, to put me in a better mood and headspace for productivity.
I respectfully advocate for my needs by understanding when my body needs a break from working, and resting so I am ready to continue soon afterwards to the best of my ability.
One goal I have for myself moving forwards is to make sure that I always complete my work at the deadline, and working towards ending my procrastination habits so I can produce the best mark for myself in my classes.

Cooking at Home – Brownies

For the Cooking at Home assignment, I decided to make brownies using ingredients we already had. It was a very simple recipe, using only homemade brownie mix, two sticks of softened butter, three eggs and one and a half cups of chocolate chips. After baking it in the oven for about an hour, the brownies were ready to eat. This was probably my favourite cooking assignment that I’ve done during this course, because it was very simple and easy to make, and turned out a lot better than I expected as it was my first time making brownies. They were really dense and the chocolate chips melted really nicely into the dish and it wasn’t as crumbly as I thought it might be, which made it a yummy finger food. It was also really delicious alongside some vanilla ice cream, which I then tried the next night!

Research Paper Reflection

What I enjoyed most about this research unit was how we were allowed to choose our own topics within the big umbrella of “respect,” instead of being told which topics to study and write about. I feel like I write better about a subject when it’s of my own choosing because I feel personal connection and passion towards the matter, rather than having to write a paper on something I didn’t understand or have much care about.

The most difficult part of this unit was keeping myself motivated on studying and writing the research paper. I have a lot of trouble with keeping myself from procrastinating on most projects and assignments I have due, which is something I am currently working on.

To help someone else with this paper, I would recommend asking questions if you’re unsure about something or reread the handouts your teachers give you during the lesson in case they have the information you need. Citations and research papers can be hard for some people to understand, especially correctly following the rules of a proper MLA citation. At first, I struggled with the MLA citation format, but after I asked my peers working on the same project, they helped me quickly understand how to properly complete it.

One of the most important things I learned about research was that every piece of information is useful, even if you don’t see the significance at first. I often found myself having to go back to the articles and books that I was studying because I remembered of a certain sentence or paragraph that would help me finish my paper. It helps to write down everything that you find that fits in your topic, because if you read your notes and find something you like, you can quickly select it as a point in your essay rather than having to go back and read the article again to find it.
