Research Paper Reflection

What I enjoyed most about this research unit was how we were allowed to choose our own topics within the big umbrella of “respect,” instead of being told which topics to study and write about. I feel like I write better about a subject when it’s of my own choosing because I feel personal connection and passion towards the matter, rather than having to write a paper on something I didn’t understand or have much care about.

The most difficult part of this unit was keeping myself motivated on studying and writing the research paper. I have a lot of trouble with keeping myself from procrastinating on most projects and assignments I have due, which is something I am currently working on.

To help someone else with this paper, I would recommend asking questions if you’re unsure about something or reread the handouts your teachers give you during the lesson in case they have the information you need. Citations and research papers can be hard for some people to understand, especially correctly following the rules of a proper MLA citation. At first, I struggled with the MLA citation format, but after I asked my peers working on the same project, they helped me quickly understand how to properly complete it.

One of the most important things I learned about research was that every piece of information is useful, even if you don’t see the significance at first. I often found myself having to go back to the articles and books that I was studying because I remembered of a certain sentence or paragraph that would help me finish my paper. It helps to write down everything that you find that fits in your topic, because if you read your notes and find something you like, you can quickly select it as a point in your essay rather than having to go back and read the article again to find it.

Our Utopian City

Reona, Fiona and I made a city and chose to name it “Faudrina,” which is based on our names combined. We have decided that the priorities of the city are friends, family, exercise, nature, education and safety. We will represent this by making sure that every family will have a home, as well as having a space for gathering in the center of the city for friends and family. There will also be no roads or gas-powered vehicles to eliminate climate change and waste. Since there won’t be any roads, people will either travel by bikes or walking which encourages exercise and fitness. We value the safety of the people living in our city, so if an emergency occurs, we have built panels of concrete for ambulances to quickly access with no disruptions.

My Tribute Costume

My tribute costume includes a parka, which will be useful during cold nights and to disguise myself in the shadows with the black colour, gun holsters, comfortable running shoes and flexible leggings. I made sure to design my costume with pants and shoes styled for comfort, since it would be useless if it was designed just for fashion and not to protect myself in the Games.

I designed most of my clothing with a dark shade so I could blend in with my surroundings rather than a bright colour such as the vivid orange of Katniss’ backpack, which made her stand out when she was in the Hunger Games. My parka is useful in many different ways, as it keeps me warm and can disguise me if I’m visible in the open area. I used the novel to help me generate ideas for my tribute costume, and I took some of the key elements and put it into my own work. This costume is not only comfortable and helpful, but also fashionable in a way, with the parka and the matching leggings, the running sneakers and gun holsters pulling the look together. If I was in the Hunger Games, this tribute costume might be a key factor to my success.
