Anatomy and Physiology Core Competencies

Communication

I believe my ability to communicate my learning and/or struggles in Anatomy and Physiology is a strong competency for me. My conclusion paragraphs for labs are usually long and contain the necessary information. I use the correct terms relating to the unit when writing responses to questions or paragraphs. I am able to communicate with Ms. Chew when I need support both over email and in person. During flex or Cent Time I am able to ask questions in a way that shows an understanding of the subject.

Personal Awareness & Responsibility

I know when I need help or support in Anatomy and Physiology, so I utilize my flex and Cent Times to go to Ms. Chew’s room. When in there, I work on homework and talk to Ms. Chew if I don’t understand. I am able to identify when I need to pay attention and take notes in class. Sometimes, I’ll write out the notes beforehand so when I’m in class I can be more attentive and just add on to the notes we have already taken. I know that I need to review the notes before tests or assessments, so I take the time to rewrite all my notes into a way I learn and understand better. I spend time rereading and reviewing before an assessment.

The Writing Process

The writing process wasn’t too hard for me. I was able to get a lot of information by talking to my grandma and other people in my family to help me write the essay. I enjoyed hearing my grandma talk about her past experiences and Italy. I was surprised by how my grandma got here from Italy. I don’t think I would be able to spend over a month travelling to a new country. The only difficult part of this for me was finding meaningful quotes to integrate into my essay.

Core Competency Reflection

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in my interview essay questions. I changed almost all of the questions from when I submitted the questions assignment. I changed them all to relate better to what I wanted to write the essay about. I made some questions vague and then asked more detailed questions after.

I show others that I value their contributions by incorporating quotes into my essay that showed how my grandma felt about her story. I used quotes that were meaningful while still following the essay/storyline.

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by asking follow up questions to get more details about specific events or situations that I wanted to build on. If I wanted to add more details to one part of my essay, I would ask questions about that specific event.

I appreciate feedback on my writing/essay and I don’t have a preference in the way it comes. After the peer edits, I touched up my essay and made changes based on the feedback I was given.

One goal I have for myself is to continue working on my personal awareness and responsibility core competency, mostly in the form of planning out my writing ahead of time. When making the outline, I didn’t include what quotes I would be integrating into my essay and I realize now that I should’ve done that earlier. I was able to easily pick quotes that fit into my essay, but I wish I had picked the quotes first. I think quotes can help form what the paragraph will be about.

Collaborating

My artifact is a script from my unit 4 conversation project with my partner

This showed collaboration because we had never worked on a project together before and needed to put both of our ideas into one project. Sharing ideas was easy because we were both open to what the other had to say. It was easy to consider roles and responsibilities because there were only 2 of us, we could split the work evenly. I think that having a common goal made communication easier too.
