Music Monday “Land” Map Assignment: Self-Assessment

The meaning of my map was to show the freedom take was taken away from Indigenous people. I chose to draw the trees being turned into concrete buildings as a literal image from a quote in the song. The quote this image was based on was “replaced greenery with concrete building.” I chose this quote because I thought it was a good representation on how their land was taken from them. Another reason I chose this quote was because I thought it represented the lack of freedom they had.

 Core Competency Self-Assessment

I selected these images and words to create meaning by looking at what each of the songs had in common. This helped me find binary opposites to put on the map too. Selecting a meaning for the map was a little challenging, I had to find multiple quotes from the songs that would relate to the meaning and the songs. There were also other words I could have used but I had to find the one that related to the meaning and songs the most. 

Chemistry 12 Core Competency

I can work with others to achieve a goal. In this lab, we had to work in groups of 2 to complete the lab. We had different roles in this lab like washing the burette and pipette with water and the corresponding base or acid and the other person had the responsibility of setting up the stand. Other roles in this lab were pouring the base into the burette and measuring 10 ml of acid in the flask and adding 3 drops of phenolphthalein so that we could see when the solution was neutralized. My role was to record the initial volume of the base and to dispense the base into the flask with the oxalic acid in it and it was. I can apply constructive strategies to navigate misunderstandings and conflicts. I can do this by talking through any problems we had and making sure we didn’t do it, in the next trial.

Core Competency Goals

To build and maintain relationships

My goal is to build more relationships with my peers so I can be more outgoing this year. This can help me in my classes if I need help in that class, I could talk to my peers. This can help me be more social and get to know more people this year.

If the group is not productive

If my group is no productive, I find that talking with the group about what needs to be done helps with the productivity of the group. I need to get better at not going off topic and getting distracted while working in a group.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well

A goal I have for myself this year is to be more outgoing so if I need to work with someone that I don’t know that well, it will be easier to talk to them and collaborate. This can also help me build more relationships with my peers.

Group Work in Math

A pro of working in a group is being able to split up the work needed to be done and having more around me to ask questions. Another pro is that you can work with you friends and build off of each other’s knowledge. The cons of group work are that some people won’t do their share of the project and will make other members of their group do it. Another con is that some group members might just copy off you work and still get the credit for doing work.

People might have other ideas or thought processes for doing something, that might cause some disagreements. If there is a disagreement in the group, I find it helpful to talk and discuss the problem fully and find a compromise. This can help solve the disagreement. I know the group is working well together when I see people communicating and collaborating with each other and helping to solve problems. If the group is not productive, we can talk about the things we are stuck on or switch tasks to keep us engaged, in order to get things moving. I show others that I truly value their contribution by telling them they did a great job.

I learned that working in a group can make things easier and help with the workload. Another thing I learned is that group work can be fun because you have more people you are collaborating with, and they can push you to do your best work.

Collaborating

I can work with others to achieve a goal. In this assignment, we had to work in groups of 8 to complete the lab. We had to split up the tasks evenly and had to communicate when we should start our timers. When there was a disagreement, I found it helpful to talk about the problem and found a solution to it. Before splitting up the tasks, we all discussed what task we would like to do, if there was someone who was injured, they could be one of the timers. After the data was collected, we all shared and discussed the data we had just collected.

My Digital Footprint

When I searched my name up, I didn’t find anything related to me. I wasn’t surprised by this because I have all my social media accounts of private settings. Since all of my social media accounts are private it helps me control how much of my personal information is shared to the public. My existing digital footprint won’t have much of an effect on future opportunities considering I don’t have much of a digital footprint. If a post-secondary school, I have applied for looks at my digital footprint they won’t find much unless it is my Instagram account but it is on private settings. My current digital footprint would not affect my future opportunities like job and career prospects because there isn’t much there or available for the public to see.

  1. I knew the information I got was reliable because I made sure it was a website with research behind the facts there.
  2. I choose to display my learning with Sway because it is easy to use and I like how it looks. Yes it fits the criteria.
  3. Yes I am satisfied with my project.
  4. I would spend more time with designing the look of the presentation to fit the theme better.
