Communication
I can work with others to achieve a goal. My lab partner and I were able to work together in order to fully dissect the pig well. We were able to communicate to each other by asking each other questions about what parts were what when we didn’t know what or where it was. We were able to split up the work evenly so we both got equal times of cutting or dissecting, and so we could ensure that both of us would have a good understanding of how the digestive system worked. If we were stuck on any part of the dissection we would ask our teacher or our peers for help, and if our peers asked for help we would help them. When we wanted more time to make sure we had a good knowledge of the parts in the pig, we communicated and decided to go in at lunch to give us more time to prepare for our oral quiz.
Thinking
After we had finished dissecting our piggy, we had to identify the parts of the pig. This was hard because we have only seen diagrams of the pig and not a real life diagram. We had to use multiple sources like our lab textbook and other online sources as well as our peers when we had trouble identifying a part. When studying for our oral quiz, we used the strategy of identifying parts of the piggy from the anterior to posterior of the pig.
Personal/Social
Social awareness and responsibility was a big part of this lab. When a peer was stuck and didn’t know what the pig part was, they would ask a classmate. I improved my relationships with my peers by asking and answering questions. I demonstrated respectful behaviours by using the class time wisely and using the tools we were given for the given purpose. I used what I had learned during my dissection to help my peers if they were stuck.
