Roast beef

Reflection-

My last senior foods meal I made is a roast beef. I chopped carrots and onions and cooked the meat for three hours. I put lots of balsamic vinegar to give it lots of flavor. I also added cumin to give more to the roast and so it doesn’t dry up.

Veggies & Beef

Reflection-

This senior foods lab has peppers, beans, broccoli, mushrooms, beef, and onions. Again I feel like I could’ve made presentation a lot better, and added in a side to go with this dish. I would make this again, it tasted than it looked.

Parmesan Pasta with Beef

Reflection-

This is a senior foods home lab, I made a dish with pasta, onions, garlic, beef, peppers, and parmesan. I didn’t do my best job making it look appealing but it tasted good and the process of making it was good. I didn’t struggle with any of the cooking skills. I would try making this again but maybe presentation better.

Greek Week

Reflection-

My greek meal had roasted potatoes, rice, greek salad, chicken souvlaki, pita bread, and tzatziki. The potatoes need more flavor and the tzatziki had a lot of dill. The pita bread was really good my group did a really good job on the bread. Next time I would taste and season the potatoes a little more.

Winter Break Home Lab

Reflection-

-Salmon with Mango Salsa and Rice

The main dish I was suppose to use salmon but I didn’t have it, instead I used a different kind of fish. I sautéed onions with the fish but found that it still needed more flavour. I also didn’t like the kind of fish and I think the salmon would’ve tasted much better with it. The salsa tasted really good but I had to take the raw onion out because I felt it didn’t go well with the mango. The rice tasted good and I mixed it with the fish. The process of making this meal was good but I wouldn’t make this again.

-Chicken Pot Pie

The appetizer turned out really good. The filling turned out really good. I bought the dessert crust so it was a little sweet but it still tasted good. Next time I would also cut the carrots and peas into smaller pieces. I cooked a few batches so cooked good but some I under cooked.

-Banana Muffins

For dessert I made banana muffins that turned out delicious! They were so soft and I would make this again. I added in chocolate chips in some of the muffins and it tasted great. It was super easy and took 10-15 mins to make.

Beef and Vegetable

Reflection-

I decided to make bacon wrapped steak, Once my steak was cooked I wrapped bacon around the meat. I used a tooth pick to keep it together and made a baked potato with cheese on top and a Cesar salad. It tasted great and turned out good. The potato was fully cooked and the melted cheese tasted great with it.

Pasta Carbinara

Reflection-

Carbonara is an Italian pasta dish from Rome made with egg, hard cheese, guanciale, salt and pepper. We coated the pasta in a thick egg sauce with bacon and parmesan cheese. A super easy and fast dinner! The pasta was tender to the tooth and had parmesan which is where some of the flavor came from. I found my pasta was plain and didn’t have much flavor. Next time I would add more cheese, bacon, salt, and pepper. Another thing I would change for next time is adding a little more pasta water to the pasta. It was a super simple recipe and I would make this at home on my own.

Kourabiedes

These Kourabiedes are snowball/ Mexican Christmas cookies. It’s part of our Greek week, which we’ll be preparing over the week and have a full course meal. It was a very simple cookie recipe. I think that this cookies healthier than the chocolate shop cookies, because they don’t have chocolate and instead they have walnuts and almonds. I worked with my two other partners and I haven’t worked with everyone in my group at once. I found there was less things to do because there was three and not two of us. Overall, we were able to complete the recipe as a group and the cookies turned out great!

FruitSkillet Cake

reflection-

this cake was a quick bread, flour mixture, and cake mixture method. I gave this cake a 6/10 because it isn’t the healthiest with the brown sugar, and butter but It has fruit. The process of making this lab with my partner worked out really well. I feel like we worked as a team and completed are lab on time. Next time I would add some more blueberries into the mixture.

Vegan Chili

Reflection-

This was my first time making vegan chili. Instead of meat I used tofu, it also had beans, onion, garlic, and parsley. It tasted really good and I would love to have it again. I have never cooked with tofu before so that was a cool experience. It tasted very plain, once I added in some spices it had a good flavor. Next time I would add in a bun with my chili to dip it in. I blended my chili after because I fond it was a little chunky for a chili. I pulsed it a few times and it looked much better.
