Creating a Positive Digital Footprint

I did an infographic as I admire how well it can get a point across including visuals, I used PowerPoint to create my design as I am familiar with using the program to make an infographic from an ADL assignment I had done earlier this year in English. My references and citations are the following.

Personal/Social Competency Reflection

I know my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences, including what comes up when my name is googled. When my name is googled my figure skating videos and stats come up which can be positive towards my skating career. What also comes up when my name is searched is a petition, I made for a stupid reason a few years ago, which would not look good if an employer searched up my name. To adjust that, I will be removing the petition so that when my name is searched nothing irresponsible comes up. I will also learn from that and will not be making anything dumb and publishing it as it could compromise a job opportunity in the future. I make digital ethical choices such as keeping my last name out of usernames and only using my first name in order to be more private and so not everyone knows who I am as there as are scary people out there on the internet. Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced, online presence include staying relatively active online but only with the people I know such as my friends and family. I don’t really post on social media, I just talk to my friends, and if I do post I think before I do and make sure it wouldn’t affect myself or anyone else in a harmful way.

My Model Town

Name of the town: Lassox

Company name: Nickay Incorporated

Resources available: Thread and yarn, coal, gold, iron, lamb, pork, beef, chicken, and wood.

Elements of the town: Cotton mill, blacksmith, wood factory, butcher, apprentice housing, and apprentice punishment.

Population: 79

Explanation/brief history: It’s 1802, Lassox is a thriving and evolving town located in Northern England. Nickay Incorporated is a reasonably wealthy company constantly growing along side with the town. The people working in the factories make about 10 cents each week, 15 cents if they’re excelling. Lassox is one of the better factory towns, it’s not as harsh and punishing as other towns.

Media Fluency Reflection

The town was pretty easy to build. I spent a good amount of time adding detail and creativity into my town. I used Minecraft to create my town. I brain stormed and sketched out on paper what I wanted my town to contain and look like, brainstorming and sketching made it easier to layout where I wanted buildings to go once I started creating my town.I used what I learned in my socials class and put that information into my town to make it similar to towns during the industrial revolution. I don’t think there’s better software that could’ve been used. Minecraft if very known and most kids have it, it’s also very easy to use and a great way to use your creativity. Your options are endless in Minecraft and that’s what makes it such a great tool for this project.

My Bio

My name is Katelynn, I’m in 9th grade, and I’m a competitive figure skater. I learn the best independently. If I’m having difficulty with something I’ll try to figure it out on my own first, if I can’t I will ask my teacher for help or a parent.

I enjoy visiting this website because it streams all the original movies and tv shows that I would watch when I was younger, and I really enjoy watching them again it brings back a lot of great memories.

I chose this video from Youtube because I’ve skated with Larkyn Austman for many years, ad she competed in the 2018 winter Olympics and I find it very inspiring seeing someone be so successful even though you’re not training at a fancy well known club.

My Favourite Image

I chose this picture from google as its really inspiring to me. The man on the far left, his name is Patrick Chan, he’s well known in the skating world as he’s the most decorated Canadian male figure skater and I skated along side him when he was preparing for his last Olympic winter games. skating with Patrick was such a special opportunity and I will never forget all the encouraging things he told me.
