For my Holiday project in Studio Arts 3D 11, I created a Christmas tree using coils. Through this project, I demonstrated the creative thinking core competency. Instead of only stacking coils horizontally, I decided to create a base by placing the coils vertically. This was very difficult to maintain since the clay was wet and therefore wouldn’t maintain the shape. Therefore, I had to work very quickly to create and attach the rest of the horizontal coils once it was bone dry. I used a variety of techniques for the horizontal coils by both twisting and braiding the coils together. Additionally, by leaving spacing in between the horizontal coils, my Christmas tree obtained a unique look. The dark red and bright orange further add onto the creative characteristic of my Christmas tree.
