Core Competency Self Assessment

The criminal justice system is crucial in ensuring that the citizens of our nation are safe and experience the health that our justice system is meant to bring. Currently, rehabilitation rather than the imposition of harsher punishments is the main focus of Canada’s criminal justice system. This undeniably has both good and bad aspects, and it has a wide range of effects on our country. I believe Canada should use harsher penalties when necessary because I believe it will make most people realize how bad choices can result in serious conflicts.

I can analyse evidence to make judgements

So far in law, I’ve learned multiple things and was able to apply them to real-life situations. I never realized how much the government is in control, and that’s why I’m going to escape the matrix. In a law assignment with many cases, we had to read and evaluate any data, evidence, and other relevant information and use it to draw conclusions about whether the person was guilty and, if so, what evidence supports that conclusion and why. As a result, I believe I’ve demonstrated my ability to use evidence to form moral judgments that produce a thorough understanding of the subjects being discussed.

Collaborating in CLE

This picture is from our group Jenga practice. Every brick we pulled out had a number on it that corresponds to a question on the sheet of paper behind the Jenga. Each member of our group had to participate with a serious answer and good eye contact around the table. Practicing real life questions is very important. I can apply this to my future in many ways. Whenever I’m going for a job interview, talking with family and friends, or on a date. I can use these skills Ex: Eye contact, dress proper, smell nice, and good manners.

My artifact: Results of my Unknown acids and bases lab

I used the collaboration core competency for my acids and bases lab. Communicating each step and by evenly splitting the amount of work toll, we were able to clean up faster and get more mixtures in a shorter amount of time. We shared ideas for problem solving organization so we have to do less clean up every time we finished a set of mextures. The strategy we used was a prediction method where we would not have to read each step along the way, but instead repeat each step for different acids and bases. We would predict what colour the mixtures would make each time and we were 99% right. i could maybe try and keep our work space a bit more tidy fr next lab.

social awareness & responsibility in CLE 10

In this group project, this is how I showed social awareness, and responsibility towards phone addiction. I can gather information and distribute it among my group members with confidence. I can share my input towards our final product of information, and I can share what our observations were to the class with semi-confidence. While sharing information, I could have improved on more eye contact, and speaking with confidence. In order to pursue a career when I am older, I will need to develop my speaking skills to reflect on my observations.

Choose Your Own Adventure Story: The Crash

  • Describe what your project is about and how to use it. What program did you use to create your design?

My group and I created an adventure and action filled interactive story, using twine. Our story is about this kid, whose plane has crashed. You can then choose is you want to have an adventure in an African plane, or a jungle filled with creepy crawlies.

How did you communicate with one another? How did you listen to one another’s ideas and provide one another feedback?

Our group was able to make important decisions about our story timeline, and if one of us did not agree, we would take their option into consideration.

  • What were your responsibilities in the group and how did you make sure each member contributed to the design?

I was the one mostly creating the story line, but we would give individual jobs like: eric would do sounds, Jayden would do pictures, and Mathew would type it.

  • How well did you work as a group? Did you use time efficiently together?

We all have good friendships with one another, which made our work process more enjoyable. We also, finished the project using 3 class times which is pretty good.

  • How were decisions made? Did you face any problems—if yes, how did you solve them?

Once again, we all would bring up topics, or ideas to evolve our story. Even if we all had different ideas, we would narrow it down to one, or try and combined a few.

  • Were you satisfied with the final product? How could you improve on this process for next time?

I am somewhat satisfied with the final product but, sense Eric missed 1 workday, it was kind of hard to give him a job which would equalize his portion of the project. I think we could of assign jobs before even starting the project which would have made Eric’s part clearer.

What’s the Word Around Town?

My Map: https://maphub.net/bigmon/winter-in-osoyoos

Review questions

  1. Was I able to identify how the geography impact the town with ease? How was I able to find how the physical geography impacted these areas?

Yes.  I was able to identify how the geography impacted the town.  I was able to do this quite easily by researching the Okanagan Valley and reading about how it was formed.  I also looked at maps showing me where it is situated in BC.

  • How did the technology personally affect my learning? What were the pros and cons of using maphub.com? Be detailed in your response here.

Technology affected my learning in a positive way.  I was able to research different topics on lots of different sites and open different tabs to compare information.  This was the first time I used MapHub and what I liked about it is that it is interactive.  You can import data and organize your information well.  You can also connect and colour code information about the same topic on the map, so you can visually see how many different topics there are. One con of using MapHub is that it doesn’t autosave.  I ended up losing crucial information because of that.

  • Were you satisfied with the result of your design and solutions?

Yes.  I am satisfied with the result of my design and solutions.  I tried to put a lot of detail in my explanations.  I supported by reasons with researched information.

  • How would you refine your assignment in the future?

In the future, I would select a town or city that is not in BC, so that I could learn more about a location that I am not familiar with.  Also, I would “chunk” my assignment more and do it in pieces so that the work is easier to manage.
