Linear and Non-Linear Equations

Non Linear equations

y=2^{x}

I can tell from the graph because it is a curved line graph.

I can tell because it has an exponent.

y=√x

I can tell from the graph because it is a curved line graph.

I can tell from the equation because it has a square root.

Linear equations

x=4

I can tell because the graph line is straight.

I can tell because it’s just “x=4”.

2x-3y=12

I can tell because the graph line is straight.

I can tell because it just has a coefficient and “x” and “y”.

Self-Assessment.

I explored mathematical ideas using technology when I graphed the equations.

I analyzed data and used criteria to draw conclusions when I graphed the equations and wrote my explanations of how they were linear or non-linear

I justified my conclusions with evidence when I wrote my explanations of the graphs.

Working With Others/Collaborating:

-Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in m recent work because I have worked with others more and gotten more help which has made me do better on the tests.

-In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by taking notes and contributing and asking questions.

-The ways I communicate at school differ from how I communicate at Hockey because at hockey I already know everything about passing, shooting, scoring, and everything else to be a great hockey player. In school I need to ask questions and study more because a lot of the stuff that I am learning, I don’t know and I need to ask questions and focus more.

My Factory Town

Description of Bromville

Name of town: Bromville

Company name: Bromy Co.

Resources available: Brick, wood, metal, water, coal.

Elements of the town: Brick, metal, wood.

Population: 2,567.

Brief History: This town was founded by Jack Bromster who had built the first house in this small town around 100 years ago. Jack used to be mayor of this town until he passed away a few years ago and now the title of mayor had been passed down to his son Marcus Bromster who is as excellent of a mayor as Jack was.

Media Fluency Reflection

A. How was the ease of access in building the town, and what software did you use specifically? The process of building the town was pretty easy other than trying to figure out a layout for it. The software i used was a “creative” game mode in a game called Fortnite

B. Were you able to apply the skills you learned in the planning stages appropriately to a digital environment? Yes, i think i was very good at planning this project out and applying it to a digital enviornment.

C. What were the sources you researched that made this an “authentic make-believe” town? I used a lot of my building ideas from the book we are reading called Lyddie because she works at a factory and describes them very well

D. Is there other software online that could have done the job better? Explain. No i don’t think that i could’ve used a better software than the one i used. The one reason i didn’t choose Minecraft is because i didn’t want my town looking too block like.

My Reflection

  1. What were your books? Did you enjoy them? My book was The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and i really liked this book because it had every attribute a good book needs in my opinion. The book had action, comedy, and a little bit of romance all crammed into one book.
  2. How did you feel about working with a partner? Did you make the work equal? Was it more trouble than a benefit? I think working with Rohan made it much easier because two brains is better than one and we already knew each other so i was very comfortable working with him.
  3. What was your takeaway from the project? I learnt how to work with a partner and how to do a podcast and I also got to read an amazing book.

My Storyboard

Tim Burton, in Edward Scissorhands, used the scene where Edward saves Kevin from Jim hitting him with his car, in

order to make Edward look like the bad guy in the eyes of the people in the movie. For example, in my own interpretation, I changed the scene where Edward is on top of Kevin to a separate shot of both faces instead of having a double shot and i also did the same thing with the scene where Kim tells Edward to run. I also changed the scene where Edward is running to his house to make it look windy and rainy because in the movie it wasn’t scary and eerie enough. The scenes i kept were where Edward sees Kevin and saves him and the scene where Edward is running from everyone.

What does this mean in relation to the bigger themes of the movie? Why is this scene so important to you? This scene was very important to me because it showed the viewers watching the movie how many emotions that Edward was holding inside of him and it also showed how one sided all the peoples view of Edward were in the town.

What did I learn from this experience? I learnt that some people have challenges that they can’t fix and that we should not make fun of them for it because you don’t know what they’re going through or how hard their life is compared to another.
