English 11 First Peoples Reflection Edublog Post

One of the pages of the comic that I made for the paly here the Blood mixes

My journey into reading and reflecting on the play, Where the Blood Mixes, helped me learn about some of the affects that Residential Schools have on Native people today. I have grown in my understanding of Indigenous history and experience. Through the communication core competency I can say that as an active listener, I notice that there there are some profound effects on the Native populace that lie under the surface, caused by residential schools. One effect that I saw in this play is what affect generational trauma can have on the children of he victims of residential school. An example of this was how Floyd’s child Christine was separated from her father due to neglect after her mother died. She had to live with a foster family and didn’t know who her father was or what lead to her getting taken away. In conclusion, Where the Blood Mixes, helped me learn about some of the affects that Residential Schools have on Native people today and help me grow in my understanding of Native history and experience.

French Movie Poster Edublog Collaboration

My French movie poster on the movie Wall-E

Collaboration

Completing my French Movie Poster demonstrated my collaboration core competency. I had to work cooperatively with my partner for this project to be a success. We did many parts of the project together and some parts we did separately. like how I printed out the characters and how my partner did parts of the summary. We did work together on parts like the verbal presentation and the duration and showings.

Determination of a Solubility Product Constant Lab 19C

Communication

I gave evidence of my core competency in communication in lab 19C even though my partner wasn’t there. This may be seen in the artefact above, where we combined Pb(NO3)2 and KI to produce the precipitate PbI2. Although my partner was away we should have made sure the lab works smoothly. My partner and I couldn’t divide the lab work during this procedure, so we did it separately and kept track of the time throughout. We demonstrated communication after the lab to ensure our results were good. During the lab, my partner and I both measured the various substances, including the distilled water, Pb(NO3)2, and KI. We then further took the time to talk to one another when we needed clarity after the lab on certain steps of the experiment.

Musical Performance Reflection

“Hold on I am Coming” Performance

The Junior Jazz band performance of “Hold on I am coming” where I preformed.

Curricular Competencies Reflection

Over the length of this band course I have shown that I have completed the Curricular Competencies. An instrumental technique that I have shown, in this experience, is being able to regulate my volume based on differnet parts of the song. I want to improve on the skill of holding the trumpet to face the audience more regularly. I intend on doing this by trying to make eye contact with the conductor more often. My plans of continuing with my music in the future is to practice every week during the summer break so that I am ready to play the instrument next year. In summary, I have demonstrated my curicular competencies by being able to regulate my volume, trying to improve my eye contact with the conductor, and practicng during the summer break.

Core Competencies Reflection

I demonstrated the core competency of communication during my performance of Hold On I am Coming for the junior jazz band. While performing I had to coordinate with my band mates to be able to play the notes correctly as a group. We had to keep time together and make sure that we knew when to start playing. Furthermore, I also had to regulate my volume by communicating wiht other band members. Based on who had the melody in the song I must play lower or higher accordingly. In conclusion, I showed the core competency of communication by communicating with other band players to keep in time and adjust my volume.

Our Utopian city: The Amazing City

this city was made by Catherine and Matthew
  • Health– ( a hospital) in the top left of the bottom portion of the picture, serves the entire town and is very spacious
  • Community –there are groups of people all around the town, and there is green space where people gather and take in nature
  • -Education –(school) the school is in the bottom right of the picture, it is big, red, and it houses all of the town’s children spaciously, it has a park that covers every inch of the roof (it has a safety wall so that the children don’t fall off), it is a nice place for the kids to hang out, it can be used for outdoor learning
  • -Eco friendly– there are lots of green space, few cars on the road because people can just walk to each other, and has trees
  • -Shelter– (homes, buildings) there are a lot of housing spaces that are reasonable spread apart with green space so that the residents are not in each other’s faces
  • Entertainment– there is a vibrant downtown area with tall skyscrapers one next to each other, a park away there is a replica of the Louvre where people from all around come and see local and international pieces of art, all of the downtown area is separated by parks so that is separate from the quiet residential area
  • -Food — there are grocery stores (the buildings with the CC sign on top of them) that serve all area of the town, the downtown, and residential areas

Communication Reflection

Designing is an enjoyable, and creatively demanding task.  In a group, consisting of Catherine and I, we created and designed a utopian town that is guided by 7 key principles.  They are health, community, education, eco friendliness, food, shelter, and entertainment. We believe these to be fundamental to our city because they will allow our citizens to live a long and happy live. When starting, we decided who will do each part of the project. I did the making of the town, and the other member proposed the values of the town. Time was used efficiently; we finished the first design iteration in one day. Afterwards, we tinkered with each other’s work on the project so that it was to both of our likings. During the formation of our project, we communicated efficiently using the messaging app Discord, which allowed us to share pictures of all the stages of development, and video chat with each other. For the making of the town itself we used City Creator because of its ease of use and pleasing pixelated art style. I am satisfied with the final product; it is a swell envisioning of what a utopian city can be like.
