Purpose
The purpose of this assignment was to show Ms Lam that we could make our own linear system, and solve it not only by graphing, but also algebraically
Curricular Response
My group and I used two different methods to solve our linear system. First, we solved by graphing and found the solution, which is where the lines intersect. Then, we solved the linear system algebraically using the substitution method. The Substitution method is when you isolate a variable, in our case the Variable was already isolated. And because if this all we needed to do is turn one line from point slope form to standard form. Once we did that, we took out the Y from the equation of line B, and plugged in what the Y variable is equal to on line A. The next step is to multiply the old coefficient of Y into the brackets, then combine like terms. Next, you would subtract the constant from itself, and the -12 on the other side. Once you have done that, you will need to divide the coefficient of X by itself, while dividing the constant on the other side by the coefficient of X as well to isolate the variable. After that step is complete, you have found X and now just need to find the other variable, which is Y. And to do that, we would pick an equation, and take out the X variable to plug in what X is equal to, and solve for Y. Then, you have found your solution! In addition to solving the problem, there are many different vocabulary we used during the completion of this project. One example of this is the word “coefficient”, as coefficient means the word attached to the variable.
Core Competency Self-Assessment
During the course of this project, my group and I demonstrated respectful, and inclusive behaviour many times. Whether it was correcting someones work in a respectful passion, to picking up markers when they are dropped, its the little things that count. There are many times I worked with others to achieve a goal during the completion of this project. One example is when we all worked together to find the best strategy to complete our linear systems with. I always recognize peoples different point of views, and even disagree respectfully. I demonstrated this when we wanted to use a different method, but I then stated that substitution method is the easiest one. I take on roles and responsibilities in my group, and do my share. I demonstrated this when I corrected and made suggestions on my groups work. I can apply constructive strategies to navigate conflicts. I demonstrated this at the very beginning as we did not know where to start, and I suggested we could just try something and see if it works.
