IDS Inquiry Reflection

My inquiry question is: How can I cook different foods utilizing different cooking techniques from different cuisines? It hasn’t shifted since my original personal learning plan and I plan to answer this question by May/June. My time management has been useful during cent time since I work on finding recipes to cook/getting inspired. I also use it to format how I want to present my IDS project. Most helpful resources so far has been my mentor teacher and food blog websites/instagram pages. Current challenges I am facing is formatting and building my website and instagram page since it is very time consuming. Also finding recipes that are interesting and I want to cook. I have grown in the Core Competency of critical thinking because I use it a lot in my current stage of IDS. I use it to research and find recipes, formatting my presentation and planning/executing what I want to achieve. I hope to use my IDS as a part of my Capstone next year if it fits with what I want to do.

Spanish Dialogue Self-Reflection

This was the first spanish 11 dialogue I’ve done and it went pretty well. My group and I did well to add lots of emotion and gestures to our script. We had some grammar mistakes in our script like forgetting accents or mis-conjugating the words. But, I think we used our creative thinking skills with our story line and added funny and interesting elements. We communicated with each other what we wanted to say, how we wanted to act it out. We bounced ideas off each other and developed a fun script to present to the class. Making sure it included all the elements that needed to be in there.

English First Peoples 11 Reflection

My Artifact:

This is my notes from our novel study for the Marrow Thieves which I shared in my Lit Circles

Curricular Competencies Reflection:

Create and Communicate: This assignment reflects the Create and Communicate competency because I read the chapters of the book and took notes. Then in our Lit Circles I communicated my thoughts and opinions with a small group. I also asked for other peoples opinions so we could build and create new ideas and connections together. I took these ideas and connected them to others ideas as well like themes of the course and to the text. I also connected the themes of the book to real life Indigenous issues and mainstream issues as well. Which helps relate the book to real life.

Core Competency Reflection: Communication

For this artifact I used the competency communication because that is how I communicated my opinions to the group. I spoke in an organized and concise way and I improved over the four different lit circles. With communication I think listening is also a part of communication because you need to listen to others to have a good discussion. Both of these skills I utilized in the lit circles so my group and I could be successful. This helped me make meaningful connections with my group members about the book.

Critical Thinking

Titration Lab

This is my Titration Lab, I used critical thinking a lot during this lab because it had lots of questions and I have never done a Titration before. I learned about lots of equipment I have never used before and got to try it out. There was critical thinking involved while preforming the lab since you had to stay on task and make sure that you do everything correctly so it is accurate. Also while filling out the lab analysis and conclusion since you have to critically reflect on what you did in the lab, how you did it and why you did it. I liked this lab because it was challenging to make sure you got a pale pink that lasted 30 seconds and didn’t put too much base in or else it would go a bright pink.

My Artifact:

This is my Character Infographic I made for the short story of A Mountain Legend about Jason the main character.

Curricular Competencies Reflection

Create and Communicate: What did you learn during this assignment or task and how did you grow in your writing, speaking, or representing skills?

Through this assignment I learned that characters actions in a story subconsciously tells us more about them. It isn’t always the author saying ‘he had long black hair’ it could be the character getting frustrated their hair is in their face and they need to tie it up. I grew in my representing skills since doing an infographic means adding visuals while finding ways to represent certain things. An example would be trying to apply a nature theme to the whole infographic.

Core Competencies Reflection

Thinking

One of the major core competencies I used during this assignment was thinking. I used a mix of creative and critical thinking for completing this project. I used critical thinking while finding examples of Jason’s attributes through the text and making connections to characteristics. I used my creative thinking to format and design my infographic to make it look appealing and connect it to the text. I needed to use both styles of thinking to be successful with this assignment. I hope to continue to develop and use my thinking skills in future assignments.

History 12 Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking

Is history the story told by the ‘winners’?

Yes, history was more told by the winners in the past but in more modern times we get both sides. It can be seen with the end of WW1 with the Treaty of Versailles as well in the Russian Revolution with the Tsar and Bolsheviks. The question is saying whoever wins the war or battle will write the history books making their win glorified and bias towards them. In regard to who writes history now in modern time history is told by both the winning and losing sides. This can be seen in 1919 with the Treaty of Versailles. Everyone has an opinion, even great leaders in 1919, the Treaty of Versailles is well known for drawing up the terms to end WW1. But, not everyone had a say in what the terms were. Germany for example was punished the hardest from this treaty but the country had no say in what was on the treaty. The terms were negotiated without Germany and the country was eventually forced to sign the treaty causing one reason for WW2 to start 20 years later. But to the allies opinion they made a good treaty and a fair one since Germany caused a lot of damage and death. But we do hear Germany’s side with their resentment for the treaty especially the war guilt cause as they weren’t the country to solely start the war. Seeing this example supports that both sides were heard and recorded. In the Russian Revolution we can see this in the change of government from the Tsar to the Bolsheviks. The Tsar had all the power in earlier Russia with an autocracy government but the Russia Revolution changed that. We can see the change in power with opinions on both. The Tsar didn’t want to give up his power but he was ultimately forced to by the out of control strike in Petrograd. While the Bolsheviks had their time forming their party and showing their want for change with the constant push for it over the years. Again both sides were heard and shown in history books.

I can analyze evidence to form my own judgements

In history specifically I feel like you do this all the time. Because you are always reading about a battle, revolution, someone or something. I believe you are constantly forming judgements and opinions. An example of when I did this would be when we had to analyze and come up with our own example of how a Henry Ford quote relates to modern day. I used this competency for that whole activity and could not complete the task without it.

Favourite Recipe

Smoothie Bowl with Homemade Granola

Making and Sharing Reflection

My favourite recipe I have made so far this year was the Smoothie Bowls with Homemade Granola. Creating this recipe was fun because we could get inspired by other people with their designs. I am happy with how my smoothie bowl design turned out because it looked colourful and had a very pintrest-like appearance. My group and I worked well to come up with different ideas of flavour combinations to make for our smoothies. We also combined ideas to make our own granola going back and forth between ideas. I gathered feedback from peers and received that our granola got a little more toasty than we would’ve liked. But that was a learning moment so next time we will cook it for less time. In conclusion I would make the smoothie bowl and granola again just try out some new flavour combinations since it is such a versatile recipe.

“Create food product, incorporating feedback from self, others, and prototype testing.”

“Critically reflect on their design thinking and processes, and identify new design goals.”

Core Competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include research and talking to others. This can be seen by going on Pinterest for ideas specifically for smoothie bowls and talking to group members. Talking to group members helped me because everyone has different ideas so it can help me edit my own.

I know the group is working well together when I hear/see people on task and talking to each other while smiling. I think it is helpful when a group can have “chemistry” because then they are happy to work together and they will communicate better.

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by applying the feedback they give me. If I feel like their feedback can’t be applied right away I will communicate how I appreciate and value their feedback.

GOAL: When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know I tend to not communicate as well. I want to improve on pushing myself to get to know new people and talk to them. So eventually and progressively we can communicate better while cooking.

Core Competency Goal Setting

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus… One of my goals for this semester is to stay focused while completing school related tasks. I can do this by when I feel a need to re-focus that is a signal that I need a break from whatever I’m doing at the moment. Some of my most beneficial ways of doing that is going on walks, talking to my friends and family, or just going to get some food to give me a boost of energy. These activities make me take a mental break from the task needing to be completed so I can come back to it in a better mindset. These strategies will help me bring up my mood and energy to come back to the task being engaged and focused.

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle include… Another goal for me this semester is to be more proactive and having a balanced lifestyle. This is so I feel less stressed and have more time to myself for what I want to do. Some ways I can achieve this is by planning out my schedule, writing down due dates and not waiting till the night before to do assignments. These strategies combined will not only help me get assignments done on time, but help me have more time to myself, go out with friends, and getting a good amount of sleep.

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by… My final goal for this semester is to try and be more active in discussions during class. Normally I am a very quiet student and I am more of a listener. But this year I want to try and participate more to bring out my own ideas and opinions to the class to maybe help them understand more as well. This can be achieved by pushing myself to put my hand up to answer questions. Also, by being more vocal in group discussions to share out with the class. If I can do this I believe it will have a positive impact on my learning.

Thinking

https://www.instagram.com/romeo_montague17_/?hl=en

This is Romeo’s Instagram profile, I used a lot of creative and critical thinking to complete this project. I did this by using the competency of thinking. I used creative thinking to explore new ideas of how would Romeo use Instagram and what he would post. Thinking of different things to post on his story and use as highlights. I used Critical thinking to refer back to the original story and make sure all the events line up in the correct order. I also used my creative thinking skills to make up the small details of the post like the location, captions, likes and comments.

Social Awareness & Responsibility in CLE 10

My Artifact

Me Card project.pptx

The artifact I chose was my Me Card project. This fits into the Social Awareness & Responsibility competency because it shares information about me and I learned a lot about my classmates through this project. I demonstrated respectful behaviour while listening to my classmates present as well learned about the diversity of interests in the class. A challenge I encountered during this project was finding a bunch of different things about me I wanted to share. Since they all had to be different in each category with little repeats. During this project I learned about the diversity in the classroom when listening to my classmates presentations. The skills from the Social Awareness & Responsibility I can use in everyday life is working in groups and being kind and supportive to others. These skills are used a lot in everyday life since you will always have to work in different kinds of groups to compete tasks. This also is when you could use your kindness and supporting others skills. Because working in a group can be challenging so being kind and supportive is crucial to a successful group. This was seen used in the Me Card project because I was kind and supportive towards my classmates.
