Art 11 artifact

This term, I am most proud the picture that’s shown above. It’s my own sketchbook piece that I had drawn digitally. This piece involved critical thinking as I had to analyze the colours and reference photo, to see where I could add colours. I had to revise the outline a few times as I had to get the proportions correct. I needed to set goals to help me to keep going. A challenge that I needed to overcome was having trouble painting the shadows. Then after more practice, I was able to paint the shadows until I was happy with them.

Textiles Artifact

My artifact is the dress that I am currently working on in textiles. It is not finished yet, however there is a photo attached of my progress so far. It will be a floor-length lined satin formal dress. This project was challenging, and seemed a bit intimidating to start with. However, I was able to use critical and reflective thinking to create something I’m proud of. As I was a working on this dress, a lot of problems and challenges present themselves. In order to solve these problems, I needed to identify my mistakes and find ways to improve. For example, the dress was way too big, even though I cut out the right size and followed the petite directions. It was pretty disappointing as I had worked hard on it. However, I was able to make some adjustments using my critical thinking skills. I tried the dress on, and identified the parts that were too big. I looked for other ways that I could adjust the dress to fit my body better. It took a bit of trial and error, but now the too fits well and I’m happy with it. I also had learned some new skills like piping. I asked my teacher for help when making the piping, as well as looking up the steps online. This helped clarify the confusing parts. Next time, I would look at the measurements more closely. I also know that patterns run large, and that I have to shorten it beyond the petite sizing haha. I also learned that it’s important to take your time, and not settle for something that doesn’t fit right just because taking out the seams seems like too much work.

Residential school reflection

/

When I was listening to the residential speaker experience, it taught me many things about the realities of the residential schools, as well as some lessons and advice regarding the court competencies. The speaker was very brave when Relating his story Because we’re calling traumatic experiences it’s not easy to do, it brings back bad memories that hurt. I remember that he was talking about how confused he felt, and how he was upset with his parents, and that he was so Lost when it came to his identity. I remember feeling confused, when he said that his parents who went to the residential school before and had traumatic memories, but his parents then willingly chose to put him in a residential school. Of course, people have reasons behind the decisions but I didn’t know why and I couldn’t understand how his parents would choose to put him through that knowing how painful and Trumatic the experience could be. However, listening to his experience taught me how to improve my social awareness and responsibility. Obviously, the speaker was not obligated to come up here and share his experience. However, he realized that by sharing his story, it could help many other survivors to relate with him, and find comfort because they are not alone. It is also helpful for other indigenous children that go to Centennial to listen to his experience, because he can help them appreciate their heritage and all that The people from there culture had to go through. His talk helps others to be more Socially responsible, because now that other people are aware of the experiences of residential school survivors, they now have a responsibility to share an advocate for their experiences and indigenous rights. The speaker has helped people that are not aware of what happened to have a better understanding so that they can Have empathy for those that had to attend Residential schools, and the family members of those. Some aspects of social responsibility are being accountable for your actions, and taking the initiative to help others in the community, so I am determined to be accountable for my actions by always being respectful to others and wanting to learn more about residential school survivors. I will do my best to understand them, and gain more knowledge from their experiences. It is my responsibility, as a Canadian that lives on first Nations territory. I can take the initiative to help others in the community by actively spreading‘s first Nations experiences with my family members, friends and on social media. I can participate in orange shirt day and other events. Overall, the speaker has helped me to meditate on his experience, which helped me to see the areas I can improve regarding social awareness and responsibility.

Personal health and wellness

When I experience am overwhelming wave of emotions, I know the importance of implementing strategies to help me bounce back to a positive spot. So when I am angry, frustrated, or sad, I have many strategies to regulate my emotions. I have found that time really helps me to think clearly, and give me a chance to cool down. When I’m at home, I go to my room and lie down for a few minutes to just cry or think about things. But if I’m frustrated and angry, it helps to get up and do something, like clean up my room, do a few jumping a jacks or go out for a walk/ run. However, if I’m really upset and need to distract myself, then I like to do something comforting to me, something that is familiar to me. I like to listen to my favourite playlist and sing along, play piano, draw a picture, write in a notebook, try on some clothes or eat a healthy snack. However, if I am out in public and cannot do these things, I like to breathe in and out, and then think of something that makes me happy. Because I like the beach, when I breathe in, I visualize the waves coming in, and breathing out, I picture the powerful waves rushing out towards my legs. It helps me to calm down and relieve any anxiety I have.

Our group showed excellent communication skills when we assigned roles and worked together. We Would talk together to work out problems and misunderstandings. Our good communication helped us to work in an efficient manner, allowing us to avoid preventable miscommunications. The project has also taught me how to ask questions if I don’t understand something.

Thinking

This project has taught us how to use critical thinking to thoroughly understand the material. We needed to connect energy to Minecraft, and then solve which e every has to do with which system. We showed critical thinking by being creative and thinking outside of the box. We brainstormed ideas that would be good for our project.

Personal and social

We demonstrated personal and social responsibly by being aware of our surroundings and the feeling of others. We ensured that no one’s ideas were left out, and that everyone in our group felt important and valued. We would always clean up after ourselves and worked in a quiet, respectful manner. We handed our work in on time and made it our goal to be respectful  to each other.

About Me

Hello, My name is Shae-Lee. Some things that you should know about me is that I play the piano. I have been playing the piano since first grade and my favorite songs to play are Epiphany and Sunday Morning. I have one sister that I am very close with, we like to draw and talk together. I love listening to music, in fact I listen to it every day. Even though I like activities like drawing and painting, lately I have been sewing more often. I like to sew shirts and scrunchies. My favorite colors are pastel colors. Lately I have been into soft and pastel clothing’s styles, especially light green and lilac. My favorite subjects are textiles and English and my least favorite subjects are science and social studies. I learn the best when I am in my room and listen to quiet lo-fi music.

My Favorite website

https://www.jw.org/en/

This is my favorite website. It is the official website for Jehovah’s Witnesses. I live this website because I am a Jehovah’s Witness and use this website almost every day. I like how you can read the Bible online and have access to thousands of videos and articles completely for free in hundreds of languages.

My Favorite Video

My goal is to learn how to sew on sleeves. I mentioned that I liked sewing so I hope to get better and this tutorial is good and this youtuber has helped me with different sewing techniques. This video is from YouTube.

BTS Spring Day MV

This is my favorite picture because it’s from one of my favorite songs. It’s called Spring Day and the music video has a lot of meaning. This picture makes me feel kind of nostalgic. I think of it as The person thinking or looking at his youth and missing it.

My Favorite Quote

My favorite quote is “The moon, you, and I.” I don’t know who wrote this quote, but it wasn’t me. I love this quote because it feels nostalgic, and kind of happy-sad. I think it’s about two people and they don’ care about anything or anyone else around them. All that they care about are each other and the light that the moon gives off.
