Personal Awareness & Communication
This unit, I am proud of my recent Protein synthesis test and the improvement that went into preparing for the test. I showed personal responsibility by evaluating where I was at in regards to my understanding, and then looking at where I hoped to be in the end. I realized that I was behind on homework and had missed some classes, so I set some short term and long-term goals in order to succeed. Some goals that contributed to my improvement were to write my assignments down in a schedule, and make lists for what I needed to do. This would help my mind to be less cluttered, and monitor my progress in an organized way. I also needed improve other areas of my life to maximize my ability to focus. I set the goal of going to bed earlier, keeping my room tidy, and reducing screen time. Although reaching these goals are challenging and an ongoing process, working towards them brought a sense of accomplishment, especially when I could see results in my learning. Another crucial strategy to getting my work done was finding a quiet place to study. I found that the library helps me to focus so I made it a goal to go twice a week after school. Setting the appropriate goals means continuously readjusting since our abilities and circumstances change, so nothing is ever smooth-sailing. Moving forward, I would like to improve my consistency with studying and completing homework. This will prevent falling behind and feeling stressed. By following these strategies and goals, I will continue making progress on my tests.
Good communication also played a role in improving my test grades. I tried to listen to Ms. Chew as best as possible when she was giving lessons. By taking notes I was able to comprehend what was being said. I still need to improve when it comes to listening attentively, however much improvement has been made. I also communicated my needs and concerns with my family members. Sometimes I would ask my family to help my study for a test, give me advice, or to let them know when I need to focus on a quiet space. When I am overwhelmed and stressed, talking it though with my mom helps to rearrange my thoughts and clear my mind. I also see the importance of talking to my teacher about any questions or concerns I have. I was able to receive beneficial help by asking Ms. chew for clarification, or asking for help. I also checked teams for Amy announcements and missed work. Communication with my classmates and friends also helped me with understanding and motivation. Studying with my friends that we’re also taking biology helped us to encourage and support our learning. We could motivate and ask each other questions, being able to see things from a different perspective.
