During this dissection, I expressed the skill of communication amongst not only my group mates but classmates as well. Throughout the dissection I had to communicate with my group by planning what we’d be cutting, delegating roles, and discussing why organs may be the way they are. My classmates were also intrigued about certain aspects of our specimen which we had, where we’d then have to explain either what the organ is or how it would benefit the organism. We’re also tasked with creating a presentation for the specimen which requires more communication and teamwork between myself and my group, which has so far gone quite well. Throughout the entire dissection, we had to make cuts that could completely ruin the specimen. Like removing their arms and shoulders to allow easier access towards the heart, liver, lungs and more. By thoroughly planning the removal of organs it allowed the team to work together to figure out the best scenario to achieve the best results.

Core-Competency Reflection
During this lab, I experienced the core-competency of Social Awareness. We worked with partners, but also in groups. Working within these groups allowed us to bounce understandings between each other, alongside settling misunderstandings within the notes. I enjoyed bouncing between other groups as well. This helped me to not only get close with my peers, but guided me between steps for the lab rather than asking the teacher if I needed help. My peers also had fun with doing this lab in general, making jokes and trying some of the solution. Overall this lab helped further my understanding of diffusion within the cell membrane and helped bring me closer to some students who I had never spoke to before. Next time I plan on working or collaborating with classmates who I haven’t before.
Another Core-Competency strengthened during this lab would be the critical and reflective thinking. During this lab we were required to create a conclusion of our findings. Near the end of the conclusion we also had to add aspects in which we think would improve upon the lab. Improving upon a lab that has been done a multitude of times before wasn’t something that just instantly came to my head. This required me to analyze the entire procedure to find any weak areas or possible improvements/adjustments that could be made. I was eventually able to come up with multiple possible improvements before deciding on one. The lab required me to think outside of what was given to me.
