Critical and Reflective Thinking & Creative thinking

Explanation

Core Competency“I can” statementReflection
Thinking  I can get new ideas or build upon the ideas of others to create new things within the constraints of form or material. -I can get new ideas to create new things – I can use my imagination to get new ideas of my own – I can usually make ideas work within the constraints of a given form, problem, or material of I keep playing with themI developed two key elements in the testing for acids and bases activity. First, I incorporated a new technique for applying science lab actions to learn that Acids react with active metals and that bases do not typically react with metals in this way.            Then, I broke a belief I used to have, thinking that only great scientists can observe reactions and that you need particular substances. However, using any solution (e.g., vinegar, pop, or other ingredients) helped me observe the reactions of acids and bases. The steps and materials we used taught me that we can be creative if we understand basic meanings.   Additionally, this was my favourite among all the lab experiments we conducted during the semester in class, allowing me to incorporate it into the theoretical assignments.

First, I incorporated a new technique for applying science lab actions to learn that DNA can be easily seen with the naked eye when collected from thousands of cells.
Then, I broke a belief that I used to have, thinking that only great scientists can observe DNA by using high-definition microscopes and sophisticated tools and chemicals. However, the steps and materials we used made me understand that we can be very creative if we understand basic meanings.   Additionally, among all the lab experiments we conducted during the semester in class, this was my favourite, allowing me to incorporate it into the theoretical assignments.   Even my curiosity went so far that I will apply this technique at home during vacations and observe more cells.

Stock Market:  Self Assessment

Curricular Response –

1. Stock vs Bond

a. What is the difference between a stock and a bond?

The two main differences between a stock and a bond are: with stocks a person owns a small portion of a company, whereas with bonds it is loaning a company or government money. Another difference is that stocks must grow in resale value, while bonds pay fixed interest over time.

b. Which security tends to have the best returns?

It depends; however, the stock market is considered to offer the highest investment returns over time. Higher returns, however, come with higher risk.

c. How are risk and return connected?

Stock prices typically are more volatile than bond prices, therefore risk and return are connected, the most that with risk, probably the less or most return that we can get.

d. What are some steps you could take to mitigate riskwhile investing in the stock market?

According to Paras, 2023, some steps can be: Diversification, that means spreading your investments across different types, like stocks, industries, and regions.

This can help lower risk because if one investment does poorly, others may do well, balancing things out.

A second step can be research, because it is important to understand what you invest in by looking at past data and future possibilities.

Then, set clear goals for your investments that are specific, and time bound. Don’t try to time the market; focus on long-term strategies.

Finally, it is important to stay updated on financial news and maintain an emergency fund for unexpected situations.

2. Balance

a. What does it mean to have a “well balanced portfolio?”

A balanced portfolio is an investment portfolio that includes a mix of different asset classes, such as stocks, bonds, and sometimes other investments like cash or alternative assets. The primary goal of a balanced portfolio is to achieve a balance between potential growth and capital preservation while managing risk.

b. What is “rebalancing” a portfolio and why is it important?

“Selling some assets in your portfolio and buying others to help maintain your target asset allocation” (Stanley, 2023).

Core Competency Self Assessment

I research different online references to answer the different above questions.

Investing has become a topic on interest to me now that I understand some important meanings and differences, specially between bonds.

3. What is something that you have learned which you have changed your mind about?

I used to hear about bons in news an in-adult conversations without understanding well about it. However, before researching, reading to answer above questions I understand the difference between stocks and also the real meaning of bons.

Desmos Polygraph Activity

Core Competency Reflection

Through the Desmos Polygraph activity I was able to develop two core competencies. One has to do with teamwork and socializing with other people to achieve a common goal and the other is that it allowed me to develop mental agility since the activity required quick thinking.I also had the opportunity to identify some of my own limits, for example that I should keep reworking some mathematical terminology in English in order to be faster in my answers. But overall I liked the activity.

My Favourite Activity

Topic: My favourite Activity

My favourite activity is playing video games on PlayStation. First, PlayStation is an amazing activity to have a good time with friends. For example, I can connect online with my friends in other countries, play together, and have a good time. Moreover, PlayStation has thousands of games for many different ages, interests, expertise, and budgets. For this reason, I prefer strategic games such as The Last of Us, Rainbow Six Siege, God of War, Minecraft, and FIFA 23. In addition, this activity has benefits. For example, it has helped me to locate better and think fast because, in many games, you have to develop strategies. In conclusion, I like to play video games to have good time with friends, to play many games, and gggghave new abilities.

Core Competency

The core competency I chose for this activity is: “I can get new ideas in areas in which I have an interest and build my skills to make them work. I generate new ideas as I pursue my interest. I deliberately learn a lot about something by researching, talking to others, or practicing to generate new ideas about it.” With this competency, I could practice my new English abilities, such as writing and grammar. After these months, I feel more confident writing paragraphs in English. As a result, I could complete more assignments more quickly. Finally, I commit myself to keep improving my skills in ELL.
