1). Physical Landform 

• The capital of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon is located where there’s rich soil and on long rich, potassic chernozem soil. And it’s located where there’s low amount of mountainous topography, with only a few hills and valleys, which makes Saskatoon a fairly flat ground area.  

• The cause of this landform is because soil close to rivers and lakes from the Canadian shield were deposited. (Deposition is a geography term when a water source like a river loses energy or enters a shallow area.) Sedimentary rocks formed horizontally because of the shallow deposits, (Instead of forming tall hills.) which created flat land. The rivers 500 million years ago also deposited sediments. That made layers of flat sedimentary rocks. The sedimentary materials created rich soil in Saskatoon and the rest of the interior plains. But the rich potassic chernozem soil is only formed because Saskatoon has cold winters, hot summers, and rapid evaporation.  

• Since Saskatoon has one of the best soils in Canada, one of its economic activities are agriculture.  Chernozem soil has abundance of nutrients, good structure, and excellent water capacity, which is ideal for good agriculture. This plays a main role in Economy because of how many to feed. Another economic activity is selling the soil. Since rich chernozem soil isn’t something can be made easily artificially and soil of this caliber that cannot be on par with fertilizer, will have high demand.  The economic activity of flat land is farming. Farming on flat land is easier than places with bumpy land. And building on flat land is cheaper and easier. Playing sports needs flat land, in case of events when a ball rolls of the hill.  

2). Climate 

• Saskatoon during the summer is warm and quite long. In the winter, it’s also cold and long.  Precipitation and thunderstorms happen a bit in the summer. Overall Saskatoon is dry and sunnier than the overall average and below average humidity.   

• The reason for this hot and dry temperature is because Saskatoon’s location is away from the influence of the ocean. This is because the surface of land heats and cools quicker than the surface of water. The farer from the ocean also means that the winds from the ocean won’t affect Saskatoon too much, making it dry and hot. Saskatoon is only 482m in elevation. And because of that, it isn’t cold. The low level of humidity is also because the distance of the ocean and its winds. Another factor is that the Artic air going down saskatoon can’t hold water, which resulted in little precipitation.  

• Since of its hot and sunny climate, an economy activity can be making money off solar panels. By making lots and environment safe energy and selling it to others. Another economy activates can be making money off the cold and long winter such as, selling winter equipment, transportation, winter sport equipment, and snow plowing.  

3). Vegetation 

• Saskatoon is mainly filled with sorts of mixed grasses and aspen woodlands.  

• The grasslands were developed by the influence of wildfires and the climate. It is too dry for trees to naturally grow. But that doesn’t mean trees cannot grow in saskatoon, they grow in places where its wet. Aspen woodlands began to grow naturally because of the reduced wildfires. They grow in sloughs and coulees .Vegetation in saskatoon grow easily due to naturally rich soil that was create from rivers 500 million years ago that deposited sediments. Then made layers of flat sedimentary rocks. As a result, the sedimentary material created rich soil. 

• The benefits of the vegetation consist of farming because there’s lots of room to farm without trees taking it up. Raising livestock is easy because there’s lot of grass to feed them with. Another benefit is chopping down the aspen trees to sell.  

Three developments question: 

1) Since the population is constantly rising and more mouths to feed. Making Saskatoon more focused on farming will be ideal and selling the rich soil to places where soil is poorer. 

2) With the hot and sunny climate, saskatoon could make money by selling energy made from solar panels.  

3) Lots of people could settle in Saskatoon because of the flat ground and the amount of free space that is not taken up by trees. The sunny and climate also makes it easier to live in instead of a cold climate.

Reflection

Finding how the geography impacted my city wasn’t too hard since we had notes to look at and researching it online wasn’t hard, because it was the capital. I built my project backward by visualizing my final product and worked towards it but with some slight tweaks. I visualize the project with the same concept, but done differently. However, I was still satisfied with the final product. Though i had some problems with posting, but all was fixed when i watched Mr. Basso’s video. Next time I’ll ask peers for help instead of waiting for support to suddenly come
