Communication

I communicate clearly and purposefully, using a variety of forms appropriately.

I chose this artifact to demonstrate communication because I was able to create a good sentence out of this Image and I communicated with the people in this image to create a proper and good final product. A challenge or obstacle I had to overcome during communication was trying to speak to my partners when doing skits because some of the Spanish words were quite difficult to pronounce. I learned how to speak efficiently in Spanish and to speak very basic sentences such as “Where is the bathroom?” and “Where is this?.” I can apply this skill to my everyday life by practicing Spanish with my friends who are also taking Spanish at school.

What are you good at?

I believe that I am decently good at languages such as Spanish and English. I believe I am good at these because of my grade I have received/am receiving in these two courses.

Describe something you really liked in the work you did. What made it special for you?

Something I really liked in the work I did was that I added little details on the crow to enhance the overall look of it such as the lightning bolt and the design around the eye. The reason this crow was special to me was because it correlates to my spirit animal which is very close to me.

How have your experiences, family history, heritage and/or peers helped shape who you are today?

My close friends and family have helped me immensely with shaping my personality into what it is today. My close friends have helped my by letting me be myself in an environment that I feel safe in. My family has helped me shape my identity by doing the same as my close friends and much more such as allowing me to express myself in anyway shape or form I feel like doing.

How do you make good decisions? What influences your decisions?

I make good decisions by thinking through what or who my decisions may affect in the future. My decisions are also influenced by my close friends who help me by suggesting things I should or should not do.

What makes you unique?

I think I have lots of qualities that make me unique, such as appearance, personality, etc. I believe my qualities make me unique because I am not the only person who is unique in this sense, every single person is unique to their very own and in their very own ways.

Comparison to Canada

Mexico is a completely different country from Canada; while they have some similarities, such as holidays and traditions, they are significantly different for the most part, and here’s why. Mexico has a number of celebrations that many Canadians are unfamiliar with, including Cinco de Mayo and Day of the Dead. Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s triumph over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla during the Second French intervention in Mexico, which lasted from 1862 to 1867. Mexicans commemorate the lives of their departed loved ones on Day of the Dead.

The bulk of Mexican and Canadian sports are comparable, while Charreria and football are the most popular in Mexico (soccer). The Mexican version of a rodeo is known as Charreria. Football (soccer) is a popular sport all around the world, but it is especially popular in Mexico.

Mexico’s music is just one example of how distinct Mexican culture is from Canadian culture. Mexican music encompasses a wide spectrum of styles, from Mariachi to Rap. Mariachi is a small group that primarily consists of string instruments and singers.

I personally would love to visit Mexico because it seems like a nice place to have a vacation in.

I can demonstrate this competency because there have been a couple things in which I’ve had to work with others and I believe I did good on most of these.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.

I can demonstrate this competency because I worked with my partner on the PowerPoint and I contributed lots of information and added onto his pre-existing information.

I can develop a body of work overtime

I can demonstrate this competency because I worked on my PowerPoint with my partner over a couple work blocks to make it the best it possibly can.

One goal I have for myself is to get an A in this course. I intend on working on the I can statement, I can identify and describe my qualities. I want to work on this I can statement because I find it quite difficult to do this at the moment

Meal Planning Assignment

Problem:

The problem is that a family needs a meal plan that will work with their daily schedules. We need to help them find a plan for when dinner will be served, what dish will be made, how many portions of that dish we will need to make, and who will be cooking dinner. All while making sure that the difficulty level of each dish works in favor of each member, that dinner will be served in time, and everyone will be home for dinner.

Justification:

On Monday Teen 1 is cooking tuna casserole there are 8 servings because there is going to be a family gathering.  it will be cooked around 5 o’clock so dinner will be at 6.  

On Tuesday Teen 2 will cook Black Bean Tacos because it is a fast and easy recipe, it is a 4-serving recipe and that’s why it’s perfect, this meal will be cooked at 5:30 and be served at 6:00.

On Wednesday, Parent B will cook chicken salad. This is a good choice because chicken salad is a quick and easy recipe. The meal will be cooked before Teen 1 is gone for their evening activity.

On Thursday Parent A is cooking Steak and Potatoes because this recipe takes roughly one hour, and the parent will finish cooking perfectly in time for dinner.

On Friday Parent A is cooking 6 servings of chicken noodle soup because it is a short and simple recipe to have ‘Parent A’ cook. The extra servings will be used for lunch over the weekend.

Collaboration Reflection:

One way our group communicated and shared information with each other would be through the word document that was shared to everyone in our group. Another way we communicated and shared information with each other would be through verbal communication and talking to each other.

Our group used technology by solving the problem together using the word document. We also used technology to find 2 new recipes online. A situation where technology was helpful in this assignment would be finding the recipes.

Tasks were distributed through our group by person. For example, I was responsible for putting Parent A on the table where another person in my group was responsible for putting Teen 1 on the table.

A couple tasks I did were, as stated above, putting Parent A on the table. I also did the justifications for Thursday and Friday.

Self Assessment Collaboration & Critical Thinking

Some things I think about before dividing tasks among group members include, how extroverted or introverted the person is, I will also ask them how much work they are willing to take on. The work I decide to ask them to do, would depend on how communicative the person is.

I know the group is working well together when I hear/see, people talking to each other when necessary or when they need help, people working silently on their part of the project when possible, and people asking everyone in the group for solutions to questions before asking the teacher.

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is when I was reading the criteria for the meal plan and consistently making sure that I am following each point in the criteria to get at least proficient. I also edit my work when I feel that it is needed.

I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I listened to what my group members had to say and took what they said into consideration. Most of the time my group members contributed very useful information or information that was missing that was needed. When their information wasn’t as needed, I made sure to find a different solution to their contribution, or modified it so it made sense.

My Artifact: Whiteboard

This artefact relates to the core competency because it demonstrates instances where I communicate effectively and purposefully. For example, when I’m working on notes with my classmates, I communicate when I need assistance or when I know the answer. This artefact also ties into the core competency by demonstrating how, while in interactions with others, I contribute to the building and extension of understanding by offering my thoughts and adding to conversations when others become stuck. Another reason I chose this artefact to represent my core competency is that it demonstrates that I can learn about complex and specialized topics with the assistance of partners and teachers when necessary.

I chose this competency because I help the people around me when they ask or look like they need it.

Persuasion and Advertisement Techniques

Our advertisement is for a shoe that will help with walking and running with its increased grip due to using Goodyear tire parts, in the sole of the shoe. We used logical and ethical persuasion strategies. The logical strategy was used because we put facts about the shoe in the advertisement. The ethical strategy was used because we included an endorsement from a well-known actor/celebrity. Me and Deiuss used the Testimonial and Special Offer advertisement techniques. We used the testimonial technique by having a famous person (Ryan Reynolds) say that our product was great. We used the Special Offer technique by having the shoes be 50% off of the regular price.

I chose this competency because Deiuss and I made our presentation about a topic of interest (our shoe advertisement.) I also chose this competency because we made our presentation as organized as possible.
