Textiles Arts and Crafts Core Competency Self-Assessment

Drawstring Bag Project

I demonstrated multiple core competencies during the process of the drawstring bag project. Under the communication core competency, I was able to converse and exchange ideas with my peers. I spoke with those around me, and was able to give and receive advice on the best course of action for the project. This was very useful as it is always valuable to have a second or third opinion to create the best possible outcome. I also demonstrated values within the thinking core competency. I was able to problem-solve and make decisions. I was having some problems with the suede fabric for the lining as it was a very thick material. I found ways to manage the material and get it to lay flat inside the bag, allowing for clean and straight seams and edges. The final core competency I demonstrated was the personal social core competency. I am able to show a sense of accomplishment and joy for this project. I put a lot of effort into this assignment and I am very proud of the results. I chose a difficult material to work with, and though it was hard, I am exceedingly happy with the final product. I am glad that I made this project and look forward to using it in the future.

Lab 20G; Titration of primary and secondary standard solutions

Communication Core Competency

This lab is a good representation of my ability to communicate with those surrounding me. I was able to work with others to achieve a goal. I also demonstrated my ability to take on roles and responsibilities in a group. My partner and I were able to successfully work together to achieve good products by communicating and sharing responsibility. We were able to properly titrate oxalic acid with sodium hydroxide. From this data we were able to find the amount of NaOH needed to neutralize the oxalic acid. From there we were able to create a standard solution.

Spanish Core Compotencies

Personal Responsiblity and Critical Thinking

I demonstrated having good personal responsibility by studying for this test and using my time efficiently. I was able to achieve a grade I am happy with, without placing excess stress on myself. I demonstrated critical thinking by using my knowledge to answer questions correctly and quickly. To better improve my grade, I will put aside more time for studying in class and at home.

Core Competency Goals

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to listen to both sides of the story. – I know that sometimes within groups there is friction. I also know that it is sometimes hard to acknowledge another viewpoint. This is why this year I plan to listen to and accept other people’s opinions to help prevent disagreements and incorporate ideas.

Some of the things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy are playing sports. – When I am down, staying active helps to combat that. My goal is to attend most, if not all, of my practices to keep myself mentally and physically active. To help accomplish my goal I have decided to join the school field hockey team which will add a couple of hours of practice time on top of my regular club practices.

How do you learn best? – I know that I learn best when I am focused and in an environment with low amounts of chatter. By removing distractions when I am studying, I can absorb the material more efficiently. My goal is to use this strategy to improve my grades.

Social Awareness & Responsibility in CLE 10

budget presentation.pptx – Class Party Budged Presentation

I can gather and combine new evidence with what I already know to develop reasoned conclusions, judgments, or plans.

I demonstrate this core competency in my class party budgeting project. By using my current knowledge and researching further, to create a budget for a class party. I researched into locations and prices to make the best possible use of the budget. I looked into the prices of movies, and decided on the movie and drink package that would best match the budget given to me. I also had to research what other activities the party could do to use the rest of the budget. After doing all the research I was able to put together a well thought out plan for a party that met the budget requirements. From this project, I learned how to effectively spend a budget. This is important as budgeting is something used in everyday life by most, if not all people.

Linear and Non-Linear Equations

Linear Equations

This is a linear equation. I can tell from this graph that is a linear equation because the graph is a straight line. I can tell from the equation that this is a linear equation because it is in the y=mx+b format, just in a different sequence.

This is also a linear equation. I can tell from the graph that it is a linear equation because it forms a straight line. I can tell from the equation that it is a linear equation because it follows the y=mx+b format. Because there are no exponents and the rest of the equation follows the y=mx+b format, this equation is linear.

Non-Linear Equations

This is not a linear equation. I can tell from the graph that it is not a linear equation because the line curves. I can tell from the equation that it is not a linear equation because it does not follow the y=mx+b format. Because x is an exponent attached to the number 2 and has no additives, it is not a linear equation.

This is not a linear equation. I can tell from the graph that it is not a linear equation because the graph is not a straight line. I can tell from the equation that it is not a linear equation because the equation doesn’t follow the y=mx+b format. Because it does not have an addition attached to the X and instead has an exponent, it is not a linear equation.

Self Assessment

I explored mathematical ideas using technology when I used Desmos graphing calculator to graph equations. I analyzed data and used criteria to draw conclusions when I looked for evidence within the graphs and equations to determine whether they were linear or non-linear. I justified my conclusions with evidence when I explained whether the equations followed the y=mx+b format and were a straight line to prove if they were linear or non-linear.

Our Utopian City: Aimra City

Values

Community

Community is very important in a social environment. That is why it is one of our core values for our city. To make sure this value is met, we have a community rec centre (pink building) and walking trails along the bottom left of our town. These buildings allow for community engagement and activities for all ages to use and enjoy with other people from their area.

Health

Health is one of the values that we think is needed in a city. Without health, how can people stay safe and healthy physically? Health is the center of life, every part of our lives depends on having good health. This is why the city needs a hospital. The hospital is a green building located in the east of the city near the university we have.

Education

Education is one of the core values of our town, as it is very important to have in a functional society. We showed this by building both a school and a university (the blue and the brown buildings). Both of these buildings are key to gaining an education and increasing your knowledge of the world.

Safety

Safety is the backbone of a community. It is key to keeping the people in our city feeling safe and comfortable in their environment. No one wants to feel unsafe in their own home, so we added a police station to keep everyone secure and happy. This is the black and yellow building with the matching flag on top.

Environment/Nature

Environment and nature are key to an appealing and inviting city. Additives to our city environment and natural elements help improve the quality of air and add nice scenery and views to our city. By adding trees to the tops of our residential buildings and parks and walking trails, we are making a happy and green environment for our citizens.

Symbolic Colors:

Blue: represents peace and happiness, it is found in the school and the sky.

Green: represents calmness and hope, it is found in the hospital and the trees in our city.

Communication Reflection

For this project, we working in a group to create our own core values and apply them to our very own city creation. To create our city, we used the website city creator. It is an easy and fun to use program. We were able to communicate and collaborate well with each other. By listening to one another we were able to make a project we are all proud of. We all worked together on the design of our city but we each had our own responsibilities too. We evenly divided the core values sections between us. I was in charge of the environment and community values. We got along well as a group and were able to complete all our work in the class time given to us. We made all our decisions as a group and if there was a dispute, we voted on it and accepted the result. I am happy with the result of our project. If I were to do this project again, I might attempt another program to build the city.

What’s the Word Around Town

Reflection

During this project I was able to identify the geographical features of the City of Penticton, located in the Okanagan valley. It was easy for me to find and apply these geographical features to different economic activities that occur.

I am very thankful that I am able to use computers to do projects like these because with the internet, I can find a variety of answers of all the questions I have instantaneously. Maphub.net was a fairly easy program to use. It is a great program for directions or mapping hiking trails, and in this case, a geography project. It had the right accommodations for this project; such as markers, picture options, different colours and different map styles. The only problem I ran into was that there was no auto-save function. My computer ran out of battery and I had forgotten to save, so my project was deleted and I had to restart. I think that this program would be greatly improved with an auto-save function.

I am happy with the final design of my project. If I were to do this project again in the future, I would like to go into further detail and expand on these already existing ideas.
