Our Utopian City: Aimra City

Values

Community

Community is very important in a social environment. That is why it is one of our core values for our city. To make sure this value is met, we have a community rec centre (pink building) and walking trails along the bottom left of our town. These buildings allow for community engagement and activities for all ages to use and enjoy with other people from their area.

Health

Health is one of the values that we think is needed in a city. Without health, how can people stay safe and healthy physically? Health is the center of life, every part of our lives depends on having good health. This is why the city needs a hospital. The hospital is a green building located in the east of the city near the university we have.

Education

Education is one of the core values of our town, as it is very important to have in a functional society. We showed this by building both a school and a university (the blue and the brown buildings). Both of these buildings are key to gaining an education and increasing your knowledge of the world.

Safety

Safety is the backbone of a community. It is key to keeping the people in our city feeling safe and comfortable in their environment. No one wants to feel unsafe in their own home, so we added a police station to keep everyone secure and happy. This is the black and yellow building with the matching flag on top.

Environment/Nature

Environment and nature are key to an appealing and inviting city. Additives to our city environment and natural elements help improve the quality of air and add nice scenery and views to our city. By adding trees to the tops of our residential buildings and parks and walking trails, we are making a happy and green environment for our citizens.

Symbolic Colors:

Blue: represents peace and happiness, it is found in the school and the sky.

Green: represents calmness and hope, it is found in the hospital and the trees in our city.

Communication Reflection

For this project, we working in a group to create our own core values and apply them to our very own city creation. To create our city, we used the website city creator. It is an easy and fun to use program. We were able to communicate and collaborate well with each other. By listening to one another we were able to make a project we are all proud of. We all worked together on the design of our city but we each had our own responsibilities too. We evenly divided the core values sections between us. I was in charge of the environment and community values. We got along well as a group and were able to complete all our work in the class time given to us. We made all our decisions as a group and if there was a dispute, we voted on it and accepted the result. I am happy with the result of our project. If I were to do this project again, I might attempt another program to build the city.

What’s the Word Around Town

Reflection

During this project I was able to identify the geographical features of the City of Penticton, located in the Okanagan valley. It was easy for me to find and apply these geographical features to different economic activities that occur.

I am very thankful that I am able to use computers to do projects like these because with the internet, I can find a variety of answers of all the questions I have instantaneously. Maphub.net was a fairly easy program to use. It is a great program for directions or mapping hiking trails, and in this case, a geography project. It had the right accommodations for this project; such as markers, picture options, different colours and different map styles. The only problem I ran into was that there was no auto-save function. My computer ran out of battery and I had forgotten to save, so my project was deleted and I had to restart. I think that this program would be greatly improved with an auto-save function.

I am happy with the final design of my project. If I were to do this project again in the future, I would like to go into further detail and expand on these already existing ideas.
