My Debate Topic: Limiting children’s time on tech.

My resolution for a debate unit (if I do/have a debate class) is to would improve my clear speech when explaining my argument. I’ll read through my debate argument next time so I can know what I have to say while looking at my debate document and explaining my argument.

My group’s debate topic was, “Parents should limit the amount of time their child spends using technology.” I was on the disagreeing side of the topic. The pro side had good arguments saying, technology affects the human body in a negative way, tech. can be a distraction, and skills can’t be developed. My partner and I had arguments with the pro side by saying, tech. can help develop skills and tech. is useful.

My Debate Reflection

The second debate I had was better than the last debate and I was able to be with my good partner Noah. I enjoyed being the chairperson for one of the debates; even if I messed up with the explanation I still thought being a chairperson is fun. Some words that described debating for me are entertaining because like the cross-examination, less dramatic than I imagined because I thought we can say, “objection”, tactical because of finding evidence and rebuttal, and shocking because of comebacks on cross-examination.

The reason I chose the resource that is in a link form is that schools these days use technology to teach students educational stuff and hand-in work easily. This shows that while being prevented from using a laptop or a phone having assignments that need to be done can be a problem.

From my debate speech

I am presenting this quote which is from my debate speech because I found this quote to be funny and I thought I used this example well for a better understanding to my audience. I thought of this quote during my speech writing because I needed to make some stylistic devices and thinking of a recognizable reference to something.

Core Competency Reflection

When I was faced with ambiguity or setbacks in the debating unit, I learned from my mistakes. I wasn’t able to create my cross-examination to make sense of why I asked my opponent the questions I had in the first debate; I also did not listen to my opponent’s rebuttal or speeches because either I was zoned out or just distracted by my mind creating imagined meme videos. After those mistakes I was able to listen well and create my cross-examination with a reason and used it for my rebuttal.

Curricular Competency Reflection

For information, the journals, graphic organizers, and circles help me in different ways. The journals helped me support my preparation for my final assessment by having me find a song for the mood of the story, helped me where the setting was, and helped me create an example of showing what my main character looks like. I then get to use the information from my journals on my final assessment. The graphic organizers helped me create paragraphs for my paragraph writing and helped me find the information for the big ideas. For circles, I didn’t get information from others for the essay writing but I was able to present/talk about my book to others. For my choice of what my personal connection piece would be I chose a poem; the reason why I chose a poem is that it doesn’t give out detailed information like an essay and it is enjoyable when you try to find rhyming words if someone creates a rhyming poem.

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by connecting to others’ conversation topic(s), questioning, and starting a new topic(s) to talk about. By connecting with others, I talk about the connection with either my book or myself which helps me if people understand/agree or don’t understand/disagree with my connection and I learn that my connection is not related to the topic. With questioning, I make sure to know the topic and process myself to connect with the topic. Creating/starting a new topic helps my understanding because I get to build up the topic and have some others be included which lets me know that I am on the right track.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I listen to some music when I need to boost my mood and think of why I am getting distracted to re-focus. Listening to music in general is a mood changer, music always moves my emotions when I am feeling in the mood of a certain emotion and upbeat music makes me feel uplifting. When I am distracted, I think of the reasons why I am getting distracted and I end up doing work and sometimes I finish or do not finish depending on the situation/reason.

This is how I select images and words to create an impact for different audiences: For selecting images, I just use random images that relate to my topic so they can be understood and entertaining. I sometimes talk about the image(s) for more attention when my presentation feels a bit dry. For words, I rarely use any heavy words or language to have my audience feel interested; I mostly use keywords if I present something and I describe something. I mostly use different energy ranges depending on the conversation that I am talking about but I usually just make my presentation funny.

Instrumental and musical skills I showed success was when I was able to play the drums and sing at the same time in the small ensemble’s performance was successful. Being able to play an instrument and sing is challenging but it is not challenging when you play the same beat pattern while singing.

A skill I need to improve on is more on the drums because some drum patterns are above my level of drumming. To improve my drumming skills, I’ll play on some drums in my free time or available time.

My plans with my music are to be in my high school choirs until I graduate high school, use my music skills to become an actor in the future and sing like any other person who enjoys music. I will be joining my high school choirs until I graduate because I love the joy of singing songs; which brings me joy. And I also promised a choir teacher, who used to be a choir teacher, to be in choirs until I graduate. Using my music skills to become an actor will show my capabilities to become an actor. And singing like any other person will have me be in the joy of singing and music will help my emotions.

From the small ensemble’s performance, my collaboration experience grew. We all each had our roles in our group and we were able to be in sync and had fixed our problems by practicing more and more. And from the planning, improvements, and arrangements we were able to have a good performance and hearing how we performed had us happy and a bit of, “I messed up” feelings. Our collaboration had improved our strengths and weaknesses and had us closer to one another.

In the artifact video, I can show a great collaboration with others on group activities/work. My role was being the idea creator and the filmer of the group. The group members and I were able to smash up our heads and create ideas for our Rube Goldberg system. Our group planned out the Goldberg system and thought the main reason why the system was built by thinking of something simple that we could create with no difficulty thinking. We all helped each other when we had no idea or had ideas about how the system could have been well built. But, also had funny ideas at the end and a funny ending to the video.

With the artifact, my strength is to act out the play with any creative ideas and plots given and the abilities I use are being able to create a creative action and appearance. I utilize creativity in planning out group projects, making general ideas for what to say in plays (in acting classes), and making ideas for general presentations. My aspects show my identity as a funny and jokeiative (a random word I created) person because of my funny actions and plots. In my relationship, I’m just a friend that supports others and a creative person who creates fun ideas. My identity and my relationship connect with my artifact because I create creative ideas and a person who likes creating plots and ideas.
