Titration Lab- Chemistry 11

Communication Core Competency

During the titration lab, our class was split into pairs. We worked closely with our partners, communicating effectively to coordinate our actions. To speed up the process, we assigned separate tasks to each other and discussed them beforehand. Our goal was to achieve a light pink solution, which would indicate the desired molarity. This was preferable to a dark magenta colour, which would have meant there was too much base in the solution.

Residential School Survivor Reflection, Carrie Lous

I recently had the opportunity to listen to the story of Carrie Louis, a residential school survivor who attended day school. Her story provided a unique perspective on the challenges faced by Indigenous children who were forced to attend schools where they were not allowed to speak their language or practice their cultural traditions.

Carrie’s story was a reminder of the lasting impacts of colonialism on Indigenous peoples and communities. She shared with us the trauma and difficulties she experienced as a young child, which included being separated from her family and losing connection to her culture and language.

Despite the adversity she faced, what struck me was Carrie’s courage and willingness to share her story with us. It was clear that she felt a responsibility to educate us about the harms of residential schools and the ongoing effects of intergenerational trauma on Indigenous communities.

Carrie’s journey towards healing and resilience was also inspiring. Despite the trauma she experienced, she refused to let it define her or hold her back. She pursued her education and career, eventually becoming a respected community leader and advocate for Indigenous rights.

Overall, listening to Carrie’s story was a powerful reminder of the need to acknowledge the past and work towards a better future for all Canadians. Her story reinforced the importance of education, awareness, and solidarity with Indigenous peoples in their ongoing struggles for justice and reconciliation.

Personal and Social Awareness: Core Competency

Carrie Louis’ story is a powerful example of the importance of developing personal and social awareness. Through her personal journey, she demonstrated a deep understanding of her emotions and the impacts of the residential school system on her life. She also showed a remarkable level of social awareness by contextualizing her experiences within the broader history of colonization and its ongoing effects on Indigenous communities. By sharing her story, Carrie helped raise awareness and understanding of the trauma and injustices faced by Indigenous peoples, highlighting the importance of cultivating personal and social awareness to build empathy, understanding, and support for those who have been marginalized and oppressed.

My Spanish 11 Dialogue

Creative Thinking

This Spanish dialogue displays my creative thinking skills because as a group, we had to come up with creative ways to follow the criteria and still have an interesting presentation. For example, in the script we made fun of each other to add the necessary idioms, for example when I say “Tu eres un baboso.”

Communication

This Spanish dialogue displays my communication core competency because in order to give ideas for the script, I needed to optimally explain what I thought was needed and explain why it should be there.

Composition 11

Creative Thinking

I started by reading a variety of poems, both classic and contemporary. I paid attention to the different structures and forms of each poem, and how they affected the meaning and emotion conveyed by the poem. I also noted the use of literary devices, such as imagery, metaphor, and simile, and how they were used to enhance the overall meaning and impact of the poem.

I also started to study the main parts of stories, such as the plot, setting, characters, and theme. I learned how these elements work together to create a cohesive narrative and how they can be used to convey meaning and evoke emotion in the reader.

Overall, it was a lot of information to take in, but I enjoyed learning about it and I’m excited to continue exploring the world of poetry and stories, and I look forward to have a higher understanding of subtle things found in literature.

Learning about poetry and the main parts of stories required me to use my creative thinking skills. I had to use my imagination to understand the emotions and ideas conveyed by the poet, think about how different poetic forms and literary devices could be used in my own writing, and come up with unique and compelling narrative using different plot, setting, characters and themes. All of this helped me to understand the creative nature of poetry and stories, and to develop my own writing skills.

Installing Car Stereo

First, I did some research online to get a basic understanding of the different components of a car audio system. I learned about the different types of car stereos, including single DIN and double DIN units, and how they are installed in a car.

Next, I learned about tweeters and how they are used to produce high-frequency sound. I learned about the different types of tweeters, such as dome and horn tweeters, and how they affect the overall sound quality.

I also learned about subwoofers and how they are used to produce low-frequency sound. I learned about the different types of subwoofers, such as sealed and ported subwoofers, and how they affect the overall sound quality.

Finally, I learned about amplifiers and how they are used to power car audio systems. I learned about the different types of amplifiers, such as Class A, B, AB, and D amplifiers, and how they affect the overall sound quality.

I also learned about the different ways of connecting audio components together and how to properly wire them.

Overall, it was a lot of information to take in, but I enjoyed learning about it and I’m excited to put my new knowledge to use when I upgrade my car audio system.

Critical Thinking

Learning about car audio required me to use my critical thinking skills in several ways. One example is when I had to evaluate different types of car stereos, tweeters, subwoofers, and amplifiers and compare their features and specifications to determine which one would be the best fit for my specific needs and preferences. Additionally, I had to consider how each component would work with the other components of the system, and how they would all work together to produce the best overall sound quality. Additionally, when researching online, I had to filter through a lot of information, both accurate and inaccurate, and use my critical thinking skills to determine which information was accurate, and useful to my learning. All of this helped me to understand the complex nature of car audio systems and make informed decisions.

Core Competency Goal Setting

Communication Core Competency

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by asking questions to show that I am listening to the speaker.

Collaboration Core Competency

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to ask questions to people in the group to make sure that everyone understands what is going on.

Creative Thinking Core Competency

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is taking a step back from the activity and coming back to it another time after I’ve gathered my thoughts.

Our Utopia City: Newer York

Our Values

Freedom- Freedom is very important to have a happy community. The boat represents our value of freedom well because everyone has the right to travel. Also, everyone has freedom within the city because we are a tolerant and welcoming community that accepts people of all sorts.

Safety- Feeling safe and secure is an important value to the city. The police station located downtown makes sure that the community feels safe and secure everywhere. Trusted people are employed to work at the police station, so they are approachable and can enforce laws effectively.

Education- The education of future generations is important and in included in our city’s values. The library stands at an area with lots of traffic, so students and passersby can simply pick up a book to read and study. We also provide education to each and every student to make sure that the future of the community is in good hands.

Family- Family ties are important, and that value is represented in the homes we have built around the city. The homes are medium sized, so families can all live together and stay connected. We chose this value because we believe that long lasting relationships in the family are important.

Recreation- A community needs some relaxation and recreation to be successful. A golf course was added to make sure that the community is enjoying themselves and having fun. This helps spread the positivity and good vibes throughout the city.

Communication Reflection

This project is about a utopian society and how we show our values of the society. Me and my partner communicated very, if we needed help we would ask each other and we would try our best to, when a question was asked it was answered almost immediately. In our group we both put an even amount of work, I was in charge of taking screenshots of the buildings in a high definition way and I also came up with a lot of the values, while my partner was in charge of doing most of the writing and he came up with a few values as well. The reason we chose these roles for each other was because my partner is very good with writing, while I am very good at coming up with ideas/values and I have the ability to take pictures with high resolution due to slightly better equipment. My partner and I worked very well, we worked efficiently and quickly. There were only very minor problems that were easily fixable, but if there were problems that one could not fix, the other would most likely help almost immediately. I am extremely satisfied with the final product, I don’t think it could have been done any better.
