The piece above is the drawing I did for the portrait transformation project. I looked on Pinterest to find some inspiration for what I wanted to do. I used this inspiration to come up with my own idea. In the past, I have struggled with my pencil drawings becoming too smudged and messy because of the way that I blend. So, I wanted to try stippling which I haven’t done before. I made this plan because I wanted my piece to look cleaner and have each mark be more purposeful than my pieces had been in the past. I used the gridding technique we learned in class to draw the beetle onto the paper as accurately as I could. This helped me with placing the shadows and highlights correctly. One thing I would have improved on is the use of space. I found that there was too negative space on the paper, especially at the top. Next time I can plan my drawing out to that everything in the composition is more balanced.
