Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking

Should our criminal justice system be more punitive or rehabilitative? Why?

I believe that our criminal justice system should be more punitive. Some of our criminal law charges seem like the bare minimum compared to other countries when it comes to charges such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, etc. I believe that our justice system gives offenders a better chance to receive rehabilitation compared to other justice systems.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

I’ve done this in different media cases we’ve learned about in class and with the case studies we were provided with in the exam.

My Writing

Core Competency Reflection

Prompt 1:

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include thoroughly rewatching certain scenes in the movie that happened in the beginning, middle and end of the movie. In this essay, I incorporated different scenes from the movie which supported my thesis in 3 different body paragraphs.

Prompt 2:

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is with my prior essay, I received more feedback on my work followed with a lower grade. I improved my own work by trying my best to use the feedback i had received in my last essay and made an effort into changing some mechanical and detail aspects in my writing to receive a better grade.

Prompt 3:

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is rewatching the scenes that i want to add into my writing and taking notes of details and quotes that happened in the film.

Goal:

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by contributing my ideas on the topic. This is one goal that i would like to focus on as i head into my grade 12 year. As i didn’t contribute much in this class this year, i want to work on this because it can benefit both myself and my peers.

Core Competency Self-Reflection

Communicating

In this assignment I communicated by showing my understanding in my writing by providing evidence and backing up my points by referencing words/notes from the textbook. I communicated my understanding by putting definitions I read into my own words. My strategy for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include reading all the information on a topic and filtering out key terms, and using those key terms to write into my notes. Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposely can be seen in part B, as I relate two paired terms to one another in a easy way for the teacher to read and understand, and once again I provide evidence from the textbook.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Collaborating in CLE 10

I chose the Resume assignment because we did a lot of collaborating around that. In familiar situations, I can participate with others. I participated and worked with new people and also people I was more familiar with when we were partnered up to review and edit each others resumes. I can apply this into my everyday life because when i am working with new people, its really good to be collaborative so you can get things done.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Social Awareness & Responsibility in CLE 10

I can interact with others and the environment respectfully and thoughtfully. I chose this picture for my artifact to represent the Career Report project presentation. When we were in our groups presenting i listened carefully to the presenter and showed interest in the occupation they chose. I also asked questions and gave them constructive feedback on what they did great on in their presentation and something they could improve on for their next presentation. I also respect the classrooms environment by not being a loud, disruptive student and having conversations before or after the teacher is explaining something to the class.

My Digital Footprint

Sierra Smigelski

I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences, including determining if I get a good job or many other things that can determine my future due to if I have a positive or negative footprint. So, I adjust my actions on social media by not posting inappropriate things on social media for the world to see that can come back to me and cause problems with my success. Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include keeping track of my digital footprint and keeping it positive and looking good. I try my best not to show negative things on my social media because I know it will be there forever. I like posting things about awareness on all sorts of activist things on my Instagram story. I maintain a health presence on social media by as I said spreading awareness on things like BLM, women’s rights, animal cruelty, racism, sexism, etc. I also like to post my favorite artists sometimes to my Instagram story. Some of the ways I work to build and maintain online relationships are not posting negative things to bring other people down. In the past, I have searched myself up on Google and I don’t feel like there is anything negative or inappropriate in my digital footprint. When I searched myself up on Google all I saw was my Instagram, vsco and I was on Burnaby Now news when I was in grade 2.
