Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking

1 Leadership Quality I possess is responsiveness. CHY has a group chat and I’m always one of the first people replying to it. I always make sure what needs to be done gets done and communicate effectivily with members in my leadership group.

1 Leadership Skill I possess is delegation. I am really good at this, probably because I’m the oldest sibling of 3. In projects I always make sure everyone has a fair role and that it match’s with their strengths. I also make sure that we try and keep to the point, to get what we need done.

1 Leadership Quality I would like to develop by the end of the course is creativity. I can have a hard time putting together something like a post so its visually appealing. For example I made a Instagram post because we decided that everyone should make one and my group said mine was bad so someone re-designed it…

1 Leadership Skill I would like to develop by the end of the course is decision making. I am really indecisive and would like to improve upon this.

As demonstrated through volunteering, group activities and my cultural connections project I can work with others to achieve a goal. I am always communicating and collaborating with other in leadership students which is a good way to achieve a goal. In Cent Helping Youth the only way to achieve our goal is by working together. Last year we surpassed our goal and raised about $1,200 for Covenant House and we couldn’t have done it without working together to make sure fundraises go smoothly.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking

Our criminal justice system should be both punitive and rehabilitative depending on the severity of the crime. Murder, treason and rape are examples of things that should be highly punished. Lesser crimes of assault, stealing and intoxication should have a higher focus of rehabilitative.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements – I meet this core competency as I’m able to analyze a cases evidence to come to a conclusion of who I believe is guilty as demonstrated through assignments.

English First Peoples 11 Final Reflection

My Artifact:

Curricular Competencies Reflection

Comprehend and Connect: During this assignment I learnt how in poems there is lots of symbolism. I grew in my reading skills when analysing this poem. I had to consider different perspectives and meanings in this text to create a well rounded analysis. I will take what I learned and use it towards working on reconciliation by connecting real life issues to those in stories. This can help younger generations by being able to relate ongoing issues with to things they can understand.

 Core Competencies Reflection

Critical/Reflective Thinking: I grew in this core competency when completing this assignment. I can now better analyse evidence to make judgements. I had to read over the poem many times and try to get a better understanding of the symbols and their different meanings.

Inductive/Deductive reasoning in popular games

Game: Mastermind

I played the game mastermind. How you play is by trying to guess the sequence and colours of a 4 length hidden answer. There are 8 colours to choose from to create 4 circle code. When you guess the code if you get the right colour it shows you a small white circle and if you guess the right colour and spot it shows you a small red dot. From there you must use inductive and deductive reasoning to win. Inductive reasoning is good to use at the beginning, using examples as guesses. After gathering some information you can use deductive reasoning to put together the final answer. You can look back and see in what formations you had the right colour and spots and see past that to what colours have been there before and not gotten the little red dot, allowing you to see what needs to be there.

French 11 Movie Posters

Creative Thinking:

For my French movie poster I chose the film Heathers. This movie is one of my favourite movies and I watch it every so often with my sister. When it came to creating and designing the poster I wanted to do a black and white theme, as it’s an older film and I felt it enhanced the morally grey characters of the story. I also added croquet illustrations, as the film starts off with them playing and it is a common association of the Heathers. I chose the font because I liked the aesthetic it added and in the movie they often wrote in cursive. Overall I like how the poster turned out.

Metal Arts & Jewlery 12 Core Competency

Edu-blog Reflection Post

As part of my Metal Arts & Jewlery 12 class, I’ve started making wall art. For the design I’ve chosen a flower. I started the project by drawing the design on a large sheet of paper and starting to cut out the pieces. I scotchbrited everything and then used the belt sander to sand it down. After that was done, I bent the petal shapes with the di-acro bender. Once everything was bent and sanded, I used electrical MIG welding to get the pieces together. To finish it off I used the drill and wire wheel to clean the welds. After the base was done, I started the tedious process off cutting a lot of smaller rods, scotchbriting them and finally belt sanding them down. I planned on placing them in the petals in horizontal lines. I started electric MIG welding the pieces to the flower base by welding from the thinker metal to thinner. So far, I’ve finished the process for all the petals but one. After I finish that I am planning on wrapping thin copper wire around the middle to create the filament of a flower and welding on a thick stem. So far, I have been successful and hopefully I will continue to be. The only thing I would do differently is not spending a day trying to get my flower petals completely straight and just using clamps to hold it down when welding. I am very proud of the shape of my petals and the way the base turned out.

Core Competencies Goals

The ways I communicate at school differ from how I communicate at home in these ways…

I do communicate differently at school than my home, but sometimes I need to remember that I am in a more professional environment. My goal is to speak more professionally while in a school environment.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I…

I can work really well with people I don’t know, sometimes. The other times I won’t say anything and just agree with whatever they say. I think it really just depends on if I feel comfortable within my environment. My goal would be to speak more freely even when I feel uncomfortable.

What goals have you met that you are proud of?

I have set goals for myself, many. When I reach them (which I usually do), I don’t feel proud, I just think that it is what is expected from me, and I should have done better. I got 100% in a class, and I still felt like I didn’t deserve it and that I should have done better. My goal is to be prouder with what I get, even when I don’t get what I aimed for.

Favourite Recipe

Cheesecake

Making and Sharing Reflection

Making- I make cheesecakes occasionally at home so I have some experiences in making it but whenever I make it I always push the graham cracker crumbs too hard down making it hard to cut and for it to get out of the springform, but this time I didn’t and it turned out really good! Last minute we also decided to put berries in the vanilla cheesecake and it was definitely the right choice. Overall everyone in my foods group enjoyed this and I even brought some home for my family because we had a bit extra.

Sharing- I believe my group effectively worked both collaboratively and individually on this lab. Within my group there was division on which flavour we wanted so we decided that between the 2 groups 1 would make chocolate and the other vanilla and then at the end we would all share. Everyone worked together to get everything done on time with some time to spare so we could work on the theory part of the recipe.

Core Competency Refelection

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on a common purpose is to make sure to clarify with them often.

If there is a disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to try and see from the different peoples points of view and see if one person’s side should have more sway in the matter. I also try to find a middle ground.

As a active listener I notice that I follow the instructions given and if I have any questions or I don’t understand something I ask the teacher or a peer.

The way I communicate while cooking differs from how I communicate when hanging out with friends and family in these ways: I am less easy going because I like to make sure we follow recipe completely and exactly. I’ve also found that when I communicate in foods I talk like I understand what I am doing.

One goal I have for myself going forward is working collaboratively with people I do not know well. I don’t talk well with people I don’t really know so I just act like I know everything or I don’t say anything. I want to get better at this though because I know its a valuable tool for life. I’ll do better by trying to talk more about what we are doing in a more open manner.
