My 2022/2023 Year
This year I had quite a couple things go pretty well. Most have to do with my decision to be involved with the Environmental Studies Academy. Being in the academy, I’ve developed really good friendships and have been learning so much about the environment we live in and how to take care of it. These are things I’m very passionate about and because of my interest, I’ve been able to (at least so far) get grades above 90% in every course! I’m very happy and proud of this achievement, especially since I think I’ll want to go into a career that’s involved with Environmental Sciences. Me figuring that out is another thing that has went well. Prior to ES, I was so confused about what to do after I graduate, but now I actually have a solid developing idea. I find ES was such a beneficial time for me, and I highly recommend anyone who’s passionate about nature to not miss out and sign up!
Areas to Improve
GOALS | ACTION PLANS |
Find a specific career I would like to have. | To achieve this goal, I plan on doing lots of research. I also have lots of family friends and my ES teachers who work with the topic to ask questions to. For post-secondary, I’m going to go into a couple university websites and look at the requirements for Environmental Sciences courses. |
Get a new job (outside of school). | I haven’t really worked at all this school year as I quit my last job in September. However, I signed up to go on the Euro Tour next year and need to start saving up money for it and other things. I’ve already started applying to a couple of places, but I plan on sitting down and dedicating more time to it as school comes to an end. My main goal is to get a job in July and start working then. |
Keep learning about flora/fauna/fungi during the summer. | I plan on going on lots of hikes and walks this summer. On them, I can use animal or plant identification apps I’ve used for ES, to continue learning. I also love documentaries and there are many to watch so that’s definitely something I’ll be doing. Also, I want to start volunteering at Colony Farms with the Bird Banding Centre. We went on a day trip there with ES, and it was so interesting. It’s a great way to give back to my community while learning a lot. It would look great on my resume which is just one more positive about it. |
Go backpacking this summer with friend(s). | Hiking is a hobby that is really good for my mental health. I never feel as at home as I do when I’m outdoors. On the first week of summer, I plan on making a list of different trails/hikes I want to go on in our months off. Once I have that figured out, me and a friend will pick one in which we’ll want to do a one-night backpacking trip. I want to test the skills I’ve learned in ES and show my parents I can handle one night in the woods without adult supervision. This way as time goes on, I’ll gain more independence and their trust. To make them more comfortable, I will make a trip plan where I list out everything for the trip. This ensures I know what I’m doing, and that my parents will know where I am each day in case something happens. |
