My Artefact

Curricular Competency Reflection

I was developing my writing skills and more specifically more compare and contrast writing format. I was also developing my writing abilities for all future writes by practicing my use of powerful language and using literary devices. Completing this assignment and seeing I got a good grade helped me realize that I have been developing my writing abilities over this semester. I am most proud of the mark I received on this, as it shows my progress to my writing abilities.

Core Competency Reflection

Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are searching up ways to have more powerful language and finding new ways to implement different ways to include different literary devices in my writing.
I appreciate feedback on every part of my writing that may need it and prefer it comes in the form of giving me examples on what else I could put. It helps to see different examples of what I could put instead of just saying what I wrong as it makes it harder to improve.

Regardless: Poetry in Voice Reflection

My Poem

Curricular Competency Reflection

I chose this poem as I needed a poem to be over 25 lines and at the senior level. I also thought it to be easy to memorize when I found it. When I read into it more to decide if I was going to pick it for sure I figured out the deeper meaning. The theme of the poem is individuality and how you should not care about labels other people may place on you. So it does not affect your decisions in life and you can be your authentic self. Reciting the poem and watching videos other people helped me the most when remembering my poem and how to read it, when coming to things like pacing. I didn’t employ any other strategies when it came it memorizing my poems. Completing the analysis and getting a more thorough understanding of my poem helped me memorize.

Core Competency Reflection

An example of where I built upon someone else’s idea is when I searched up other people reciting my poem for competitions. This helped me remember and figure out how to pace my poem and the general tone I should speak in.

Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are my public speaking skills. Speaking in front of the class helped me become better at public speaking especially because it was a poem and more outside of my comfort zone than a speech or a presentation.

I appreciate feedback on my work and things I do in class and prefer it comes in the form of straight criticism. I feel I actually focus on it more when the criticism doesn’t beat around the bush to put it in a nicer tone.

Core Competency Self-assessment

Communication

For this titration lab I used my communication core competency experience to ensure that my partner and I had a good experience. We each had our own roles in the lab and took turns and we supported each other throughout the lab and we made sure we both knew what to do. When it came to answering questions we bounced ideas off of each other on how to answer. We also both had ideas on how to get half drops of NaOH. This showed how my partner and I have developed our communication core competency over our years at Centennial.

CPR Reflection

I learned how to properly do CPR and how to use an AED. something I didn’t consider before was the amount of work that CPR is and how tiring it can be. Also how to tell the difference between a heart attack, stroke, and cardiac arrest. A key takeaway is that ventilation are not needed to save someones life, and that chest compressions and delivering them properly is more important. This unit connects to our nutrition unit directly as eating properly and getting enough nutritions can help reduce risk.

Core Competency Reflection

I work with others to achieve a goal.

I chose this because I am able to work with others effectively to achieve a goal. I worked with classmates to win in games of volleyball, dodgeball, etc.

I give, receive, and act on feedback to progress in my goals.

I chose this because I am able to give others feedback that will help improve their skill in certain games. I helped some people understand something we have done better.

I participate in activities that support my well-being and take responsibility for my well-being.

I chose this because I can and will actively participate in activities we do in PHE class. I am always participating in the activities we do and actively try to win.

I participate in classroom or group activities that improve the class, school, or community.

I chose this because I am able to help set up things around class in order to make class go faster and spend more time doing physical activity. I help set up balls while playing dodgeball and help set up nets when we play volleyball.
