How to get and maintain a positive digital footprint
The most important way to have a positive digital footprint is to be kind to other people online and be careful about what you post online when you post things online they are there forever. Even if you post something on a private account or when sending a private message or picture to someone they can screenshot the photo and post it online for other people to see. If you have a public account anyone could see it so if you post pictures of where you are and overshare your personal life that information could lead to you into dangerous situations.
Personal/social competency reflection
I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences, including losing opportunities to jobs and future education such as college or university, so I would adjust my actions to not saying anything disrespectful to anyone online or in private messages, as they will be online forever no matter what you do to them. In private messages could be screenshotted and released online. Jobs will do research on you and if they find something that you have posted online and see something horrible that you said or done.
Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include not posting anything so people cannot see where I am. I also keep my account on private so random people on the internet cannot see anything about me. If I ever do post anything I make sure it does not give away any personal information.
My values around personal safety forms my decisions about what I post online and what I say or show of my personal life. This will keep me and my family safe from people on the internet. Although I do not think that you will ever have to worry about any of this happening you can never be to safe with these kinds of things.
