Curricular Competency Reflection

I was developing my writing skills and more specifically more compare and contrast writing format. I was also developing my writing abilities for all future writes by practicing my use of powerful language and using literary devices. Completing this assignment and seeing I got a good grade helped me realize that I have been developing my writing abilities over this semester. I am most proud of the mark I received on this, as it shows my progress to my writing abilities.

Core Competency Reflection

Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are searching up ways to have more powerful language and finding new ways to implement different ways to include different literary devices in my writing.
I appreciate feedback on every part of my writing that may need it and prefer it comes in the form of giving me examples on what else I could put. It helps to see different examples of what I could put instead of just saying what I wrong as it makes it harder to improve.

Regardless: Poetry in Voice Reflection

My Poem

Curricular Competency Reflection

I chose this poem as I needed a poem to be over 25 lines and at the senior level. I also thought it to be easy to memorize when I found it. When I read into it more to decide if I was going to pick it for sure I figured out the deeper meaning. The theme of the poem is individuality and how you should not care about labels other people may place on you. So it does not affect your decisions in life and you can be your authentic self. Reciting the poem and watching videos other people helped me the most when remembering my poem and how to read it, when coming to things like pacing. I didn’t employ any other strategies when it came it memorizing my poems. Completing the analysis and getting a more thorough understanding of my poem helped me memorize.

Core Competency Reflection

An example of where I built upon someone else’s idea is when I searched up other people reciting my poem for competitions. This helped me remember and figure out how to pace my poem and the general tone I should speak in.

Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are my public speaking skills. Speaking in front of the class helped me become better at public speaking especially because it was a poem and more outside of my comfort zone than a speech or a presentation.

I appreciate feedback on my work and things I do in class and prefer it comes in the form of straight criticism. I feel I actually focus on it more when the criticism doesn’t beat around the bush to put it in a nicer tone.
