Personal/Social Competency Reflection
During intense choir rehearsals and high-pressure performances, I am confident in my ability to advocate for myself. I do this by enjoying the rehearsals and performances, not having the pressure to be perfect and doing my best even if mistakes are created. The thought of trying to not make a mistake creates pressure and stress so I ignore the pressure and have the idea of enjoying performing instead.
For making time for personal/class rehearsals and practices in addition to having other courses and organizing a club I do my best to go to flex blocks and be at home and sing along with music tracks. Because of other classes, I have not been able to practice as much at home or in my free time so I stay focused in choir rehearsals and restrain myself from being sidetracked.
I actively identify opportunities to lead within the choir and make a positive impact, as seen in my recent role as a bass/baritone “leader”, the hype man, and the solemn student. As the representative of the leader for the bass/baritone group, I take the initiative to help out the group with reaching notes, harmonies, and dynamics. During times when the teacher is absent, I have led vocal warmups but also helped the students to be positive.
