Ceramics 3D Art Core Competency

Communication

My strategies for collection relevant material and information for ceramics include searches on Pinterest and google. I create an image in my head of what I want my work to look like and gather ideas for  on the internet to inspire and create contrast within my pieces. The mood mug is a great example of this. While coming up with an idea for what face I felt best described me, I went on to Pinterest and gathered information and ideas from other artists who’ve made similar mugs. This helped me bring my ideas to life and transfer my thoughts into my work. Asking my peers also helps me get a greater understanding of what I may want to add or take away from my ideas and work. They provide me with valuable information and feedback regarding what they like and dislike about the project.

Chemistry 12 Core Competency

Communication

I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. I demonstrate this when conversing with my lab partner about qualitative observations. We share our thoughts and give feedback on what we see and what we observe. In Lab 19C, my partner and I had to look for precipitates when adding chemicals together. We gave each other thoughtful observations and eventually came to conclusions with our combined ideas. We work together to achieve a common goal and we do or part in each lab. By communicating and collaborating with my peers and lab partners I am able to get a better understanding o the topic an concepts within the class.

A+P Cell Diffusion Lab

Communication

Communication-Collaboration: During the Cell diffusion lab I had to communicate with my peers and group mates to agree on the observations and errors in our lab. 2 people in the group did one experiment while the other 2 did a different experiment. At the end of each experiment we collaborated and communicated our insights on the experiment while analyzing both beakers. I collaborated with my peers to get the right information on the experiments that I didn’t have much information on and I shared my insight with my peers on the experiment me and my partner did. The experiment we did had some errors, our starch and IKI water solution had not diffused properly and or cell was left with the starchy white colour with a little hue of blue. I communicated with my group members and noted that our looked different then the other cells that our classmates had done. We talked to the teacher and worked out what went wrong, we had not twisted the cell enough to allow proper diffusion and we had not tied the ends of the cell tight enough. I communicated this error within the conclusion, and I made sure to inform my group members about it so they could also include it in their writing so they would not get marks off. I also communicated this error I the qualitative observations. I stated that the cell was still partially cloudy and that the molecules had not diffused across the membrane properly.

Critical Thinking: While doing the Cell Diffusion Lab in A+P, I had to use my critical thinking skills when we noticed that the experiment was done incorrectly. We had not tied the ends of the cell tight enough which caused the molecules to not diffuse properly. To insure we would not lose marks I wrote that error in the conclusion and in the questions. I used evidence from the experiment drew a conclusion with the data and analysis. I also had to use my critical thinking to decide what way the molecules diffused. The IKI solution had turned part of the cell blue, which means the IKI solution diffused into the cell. In the glucose experiment, I had to determine where the glucose and water diffused. The cell had grown in size and mass so I determined that the water had diffused into the cell The glucose test strips indicate that the glucose had diffused out of the cell and into the water. I use these analysis and observations to write up a conclusion as well.

Core Competency Reflection

What goals have you met that you are proud of?

My goal for this assignment was to hand in something that I put my time and effort in to make sure this was my best work. I feel I worked hard on this and I am very satisfied with the results. Another goal was to use the rubric and exceed in the criteria.

How do you show that you are listening thoughtfully? In what ways does your listening contribute to your understanding?

I show that I’m listening by finishing my work the way the teacher explained. I pay attention when the teacher is explaining the assignment. I take the information and apply it to what we are working on. I then show the teacher that I’ve listened with the work I hand in.

How do you learn best?

I learn best when the teacher writes or shows what we are working on. I find that when the teachers hand out instructions or write them on the board I understand the assignments better. With this assignment my teacher handed out sheets explaining what to do and I found it easy to apply it to my work.

How have you improved this year in English?

I’ve improved my getting a better sense of identity. We are learning a lot about our own identity as well as the identity of the first nations. I’m getting a better understanding of who i am and who the first nations people are.

My Product

I am feeling happy this Monday morning

To celebrate an accomplishment such as scoring a goal or getting a touch down, I do a celebratory dance. I will run around cheering and high five my teammates. I make sure that everyone who contributed to my goal gets a little hand shake. I look for my friends and I cheer with them. I like to have fun and celebrate my accomplishments.

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle include walking to school everyday. I live about a 10 minute walk away from school so its an easy way to get my exercise in. I also play lacrosse 3 times a week and I take my dog on a 20 minute walk ever day. I like to get outside and be active for at least 30 minutes everyday.

Core Competency Reflection

I work with others to achieve a goal. I demonstrated this by huddling up with my football team and making plays. If our play worked we could celebrate and cheer.

I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. I show this when someone on my team scores. I cheer for them and I give them a high-five.

I find it easy to be part of a group. I show this when I collaborate with my team mates to make special plays.

I demonstrate respectful, inclusive behaviour. I show this when I make sure that everyone on my team feels included and part of the team.

I encourage others to share their voices and value diverse perspectives. I will work towards this by listening to what others have to say and applying it in my life. I will try my best to make them feel safe enough to share their thoughts.

The Simpsons

My Analysis

Creating and Communicating

The Simpsons taught me and helped me fully understand irony and satire. I got to see visual irony when homer bounced back into the burning house after Ned threw him out. I analyzed and saw the irony of expecting one thing and getting something different. I learned about satire through the characters. Homer is an example of how dads would rather watch tv and eat instead of watching the kids. I reread my work and got rid of unnecessary words to refine my work. I used the less is more technique to not use too many words.

Core Competency Reflection

I can describe how satire, irony and/or allusion relates to the Simpsons. I used different evidence from the show and used examples from episodes. I used examples of visual and verbal irony that I noticed in the episodes and satire of the characters.

I respectfully advocate for my needs by asking questions and getting clarification. I also talk and compare my work with my peers. I ask my peers about my work and if it needs more help. I make sure that my work meets the criteria and exceeds expectations.

I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I write essays or take tests. In essays I am open minded to criticism to help make my work the best it can be. On tests I learn from my mistakes and i talk to my peers about how they study for tests or what they studied.
